Paypal don't charge VAT do they? I thought the seller set the VAT rate in their account profile. I do on mine.

First off, PayPal are a Luxembourg company and the services they provide (at least the ones I am aware of as a user) are subject to Luxembourg, not UK, VAT law. Secondly, their services are exempt from VAT under EU law.

Nando - can you send a link to this info from Othello? I'd be interested to try and make sense of it.

Nando, it's bollox. PayPal cannot charge VAT, just like credit card companies cannot add it themselves. The retailers charge VAT.

Nando, this is referring to recurring Paypal payments (à la Direct Debit).

Anyone with a recurring weekly/monthly/yearly payment that is processed via Paypal will not have the amount updated automatically in line with the VAT changes, so retailers are advising people to cancel such payments and recreate them for the new value.

They aren't suggesting you should cancel your Paypal account, as they certainly aren't responsible for this, let alone charging you VAT in the first place.

This is just an unfortunate circumstance with the VAT change that has nothing do with Paypal - you would be in the same situation if you paid via standing order through your bank.

Presumably your Homescape AV site is hosted by Othello Tech?

Do you pay via a recurring monthly payment through Paypal? If not, you have nothing to worry about.
