A quick Google search should reveal several DJ suppliers that sell these machines in the UK.
There are three types of disc:-

CD+G is CD with Graphics. This is your most basic type Karaoke disc - coloured screen with words.

VCD is Video with CD (simple, eh?) Moving pictures with words.

and finally Karaoke DVD. Higher capacity, better quality moving pictures with words. The discs are more expensive than CD+G and VCD.

Most of the basic players in the £100 - £150 range play both CD+G and VCD. A little more money gets you something that plays all.

Don't be put off by unfamiliar brand names. There are lots of Chinese players available which survive life with mobile DJs so they'll be fine at home too. They'll be streets ahead of the machines you can by at Argos. JVC is also a pretty big player in the market but there is a premium for their machines.

The best advice I can offer is check out disc prices first. A decent Karaoke collection will cost several times more than the player. Get some advice on the best format to choose. CD+G is seen as old technology. There's better support for VCD and DVD. Also, the quality of the backing music is better with premium brand disc manufacturers like SunFly. Again, take advice.

    Regards
