    Hello all,

My new (second hand & broken) Kef Coda 7's arrived today and whilst one works fine, the other which has been dropped on the floor is not producing any sound from the tweeter at all.

I have taken the speaker apart and the connectors all seem to be fitted ok and the tweeter itself does not show any obvious damage.

Does anyone have any suggestions as to what it might be?

    Thanks

    Andrew

Sometimes there are 2 fines wires visible from the dome [coil] to the rear of the connectors. Is one visibly detached? Maybe just need resoldering. There aren't many parts to a tweeter.

I have had a look and one of the fine wires has snapped off and the previous owner has glued it all up. I have tried resoldering it but its beyond repair I'm afraid.

Does anyone know how much a new tweeter will be? I have emailed KEF but are there any other places to look?

The cost of a new tweeter will depend very much on

    a) the quality of the tweeter
    b) where you source the replacement

You can get tweeters from the likes of Vifa, SEAS etc from about £15 to £100+. KEF are likely to charge upwards of £30 for a replacement tweeter at a guess. They tend to charge like car manufacturers charge for replacement car parts. How much they charge depends not on the model of the part but on the cost of the speaker it is for, (after all who would like to find out that the tweeter for their £2000 speakers costs £10 to replace).

Thanks for the replies, I didn't realise all of these companies used other components.

I have emailed Wimslow Audio as they seem to know a lot about KEF speakers and will let you all know what happens

I wouldn't rush into anything,I bought some Seas H519's from Whats Left.Com a few years ago for a Fiver each inc Vat and very reasonable shipping costs.

At that time the same Seas model was 20 pounds Plus at Wimslow plus Vat plus about £4.00 shipping costs.

I am more hoping to find out which tweeters I would need so that I can start looking for the best price from other companies.

At the moment I have no idea which tweeters it would need as they are an unusual design.

Not in any rush, they are for the home cinema setup which is sitting in a spare bedroom unplugged at the moment anyway

The only place I would consider would be Kef themselves. I needed a new tweeter for my Q35's it cost me the grand total of £16 and arrived the next day. Look on their website the contact details are there. They will accept payment by card.

I meant to ask, does anyone know where I can get the small spade connectors which connect to the tweeter? One of them was broken and I don't know how strong the solder will hold it

How big are the spades? Maplin do some small spade crimp terminals, part no. JH64U. Don't know if these would be suitable. Though I would think that the solder joint should hold the connection fairly well, especially since the joint isn't going to be moving.

Tweeter arrived today and everything is now up and running, delighted.

Obviously not as good as the Ela's but they will do nicely for the home cinema setup!

Total cost including postage for everything: £30!!!
