FOR SALE: Superb Dutch masterpieces. Ceramic 6" mid/bass & Scanspeak Revelator tweeter. Have been favourably compared with good electrostatics - except these guys can do dynamics too!

Zero colouration, stunning transparency, copious detail - and they even sound superb on blockbuster movies :D

3ft high very dark green coffins! Piano grade gloss finish. Floorstanders. Weigh 70lb each. Includes custom made HNE plinths. Near Mint condition. No boxes.

Very easy to drive - lease busting levels with a 10wpc Sonic Impact T-Amp !

    Collection only / demo a pleasure. Post code GL17 9SR (W. Gloucs).

Retail at over £5,000. Asking £1,350.

See review in 8/05 Hifi Choice of the 3.1 version - they said "stunning sonic performance. Hugely desirable." I may consider offers of swaps / p-ex.

Why are you selling those lovely speakers? Other than deeper bass, how can you particularly improve on them?

What a good question! It deserves a full answer, and I'm happy to share it with all folks who might be interested in them ....

I've been an audiophile for over 30 years now. I have always followed the lo-colouration/transparency trail. I've owned all sorts of speakers that follow this sort of perspective. Electrostatics and planar speakers have of course figured heavily in this. (* see end of post for a list of speakers I've owned over the years). In my opinion, the Kharmas are the epitome of this approach - minimal colouration, superb transparency, huge amounts of naturally presented detail, wonderful 3D soundstage.

I've had the Kharmas for almost 2 years now (a long time for me to keep a component), but now, after 30 years and having attained what is IMO pretty much the state of the art - I WANT TO TRY SOMETHING DIFFERENT !!! :JOEL:

So ..... I recently I bought myself a pair of JBLs. Hmmm ... goodbye lo-colouration !! But, my gosh, it does make an interesting change. I'd like to explore down this particular pathway for a while - and of course need the funds to do this !

So, bye-bye Kharmas, you've been great, but it's time to move on.

Speakers I've owned (and loved, at least for a while) ...
Quad 63, Proac Response 2 & 3, Avantgarde Uno, Electrostatic Research Vista II hybrids, LS3/5a, Martin Logan CLS2z, Apogee Caliper Signature, and I'm sure quite a few others, and of course the wonderful Kharmas.

OK. So, I hope this reply helps explain this strange move. The Kharmas really are wonderful speakers, but it's time to move on .... I'm sure it's just a coincidence that I turned 50 this year. :)

Hello I am very interested in the speakers, just a few questions, the pictures in the link look to be black piano gloss are they the actual pictures?

Also do you have the stands for the speakers they are like big spikes and rest that the speaker sits on?

    Are you the original owner?

Is it possible to see some more pics?

Thank you. oh by the way I can collect.

They look dark green to me! They are VERY dark green though. Yes, they are the actual speakers.

I have HNE plinths for them. Custom made.

I am 2nd owner. 1st owner barely used them - they still had a bit of running in to do when I got them

If you want a chat let me know your email address and I'll give you my mobile number.

Jerry, you should also post these for sale over at the Wigwam forum because I'm sure they will be interest generated at that price, especially when some of them have heard the Kharmas

    http://www.hifiwigwam.com

Me? I'm skint otherwise I would take them off you without hesitation :D

Incidentally, what amp and front end are you driving them with?

    Regards, Frank
