    Hi everyone

Bought the Killers CD at the weekend. It doesn't sound too hot, mushy, bass not as strong as I'd hoped. To be fair it sounds better on the radio.

Anyone else had this problem ??.

    Yours ever

    Paul

I find it sounds pretty good, I wouldn't exactly say its one of the best albums in terms of recording quality but I haven't ever noticed it was bad before.

Its a fantastic recording. Which far exceeds the musical content of the disc I reckon.

A tad harsh, Anex. There's some good tunes on there. Even if most of it sounds like Duran Duran. Or New Order. Re : muddiness, lack of bass impact - Looks like I need to get an amp with a loudness button on it like me old Nad 3120...

Lol Blue Monday certainly dosn't lack bass, especialy on the 12" version. Its one the song that guarentees to drive the students next door mad should they wish to play Celine Dione or ABBA.

Now if you want a poor recording try the free CDs you get with the sunday papers, god knows what they do to them, but compression only begins to describe the the processes they must apply to them. Bloat the bass, turn down the higher frequencies and increase the pitch slightly, you have the free Daily Mail CDs.

I don't think so, theres about three good tracks on there, the rest is pretty dreadful. Indie rock and roll is laughable. They're an over-hyped, over-stylised band. All the things I've done is a blinding track and the reason I bought the album but the rest of the album is no where near that standard.

I'll reserve judgement 'till I've heard it a few more times.

A few good tracks on an averagely recorded disc IMO, indy rock n roll is very cringeworthy (I seem to share too many of Anex's views)

I definately think it's had the "mixed to sound good on radio" treatment, i.e. compress any dynamics out of it and push the midrange forward. I have read that they reduce the LF energy on purpose to "fool" the radio station compressor so it is broadcast louder and it grabs your attention. Apparently you can blame Pete Waterman for devising that trick?

I actually can't enjoy listening to to that CD it on my home system but in the car it sounds fine.

Here's another useless fact for you PV.

Pete Waterman was also one of the first to realise that 80's nightclub lighting systems were taking a feed from the music playing and reacting to the HF energy in songs. That's why early Kylie Minogue, Rik Astley etc. mixes all have a drum machines doing obscenely fast hit-hat/cymbal patterns - it sent the light shows nuts and filled the floor.

What a mine of information !!!! I thought people filled the floor to Kylie/Sinitta/Rick/Reynolds Girls etc etc at 1AM on those Friday/Saturday nights long, long ago because they were totally out of their nuts, and at that hour of the evening in that state ANYTHING sounds great...

Ha, Ha, I have been guilty of that one but can confirm I have never, ever danced to any Kylie Minogue song (that I can remember).

I guess that when you are that pissed, you will go to any bright flashing lights.

How did we go from The Killers to Kylie Minogue anyway. I am quitting this thread now!

Well I guess both the Killers and Kylie are both played in clubs. The Killers are played way too much in indie clubs now.

Thankfully I have never been to a club that has played Kylie though. Risk Astley's Neva Gonna Give You Up is an annoying catchy song though, it isn't actualy a bad song either - should I be shot? Maybe I should SAW my head off.

Rick Astley was the tea boy at SAW recording studio and they decided they liked the look of him so made him a star - right place, right time, wrong job. Lets hope he made better tea than his records

Erm he does have a good voice though, regardless of how he ended up so famous.

There is a danger that people dismiss music just becuase of how it was made, I will however admit I would never play SAW at a gig.
