The sun's shining, the fish are swimming, the frogs are lazing, and the ducks are quacking! :D

I've hardly touched my hifi for a couple of MOnths. So what to put on. Marley is normaly a fav for a day like this. But I fancy something I've not listened to for a while.

Oh yeah! My mate played that "I don't know what I can save you from" track in the car the other day, hmmm, I'm sure I've got that somewhere....

    Kings Of convenience "Versus".

The original version of "I don't know....." Is on their debut Quiet is the new loud Which I've not got MOself

The below quote gives a good idea of what to expect.....

The remix Versus album has some familiar names doing their take on things and keeping it all sorta low key electro acoustic. Royksopp, Four Tet....

Despite not having the actual album (or the follow up  ), I've heard them and should get my ass round to getting them! And so should YOU!!!

    Amazon has a few samples.

And check out http://www.astralwerks.com/koc/main.html and http://www.kingsofconvenience.com/Index2.htm fomr some full length tracks.

    MO :)

good tip,I have just heard the latest offering,Riot On an Empty Street, and its more like Simon And Garfunkel than Simon And Garfunkel are/were! :)

only time will tell whether they can write material as great as theirs, the evidence i have heard so far is very good:)

I put up a seperate thread, but people probably missed it because it was more about where I can buy the LP cheaply (HMV and FOPP if anyones interested in that).

K.O.C. are in my view one of the finest acoustic guitar and male vocal bands of recent years, just impecable song writing, guitar playing and beautifully harmonised male vocals. Fantastic.

Riot on an empty street brings a plugged in electric guitar/bass sound on a few tracks. Many conventional acoustic tracks, with an interesting twist on the plugged in sound... perhaps a bit like Moloko with a K.O.C twist.

I'd still reccomend 'quiet is the new loud' to newcomers to the band... in fact, 'toxic girl' should be required listening !

    :D

Yes, I think that the song writing of Paul Simon at his best was in a league of its very own, second to none infact.

Kings of Conveniance though, I find the vocals (almost) as good, the guitar playing more interesting and more pleasant.. but you're right, in sheer song writing terms classic Simon and Garfunkel are top of the tree in my book..

Personally I think it's another case of the wrong Norwegian band getting the promotion outside of their homeland...

You have a point there Saab. Id say sort of Moloko'ish on a few tracks, with the rest quite similar to Quiet is the New Loud.

I read on the KOC website that the more upbeat influences may be partly due to the dance-versions of their songs on 'Versus' - but this was just supposition.

Space Cadet - thanks for that great offer!
    I'll PM you my addy.

Wish I could return the favour, I have no way of burning though :(

    right,mystery over

Versus isn't really a CD released from the duo,its a release of all sorts of remixs

I have just bought the debut,Quiet Is the New Loud,Riot In An Empty Street is the follow up,they are very similar, obviously. This explains why Versus sounds so different

Personally I would nominate Motorpsycho if you feel like a throwback to the Allman Brothers or Geir Jensen performing as Biosphere for some of the world's most outstanding ambient techno
