So the Christmas pressies are starting to drop through the letter box. Thought if I order them early then I'll be able to quality test them MOself. Just to be safe of course ;)

So gave Kings Of Leon's "Youth & Young Manhood" a spin earlier.

I've only heard the one track before and a couple of samples before. Thought it sounded good, but not really a priority in my growing list of "to buys". I gave it a play and it's better than I expected. Some nice an dirty guitars and white trash vocals pound along for 11 tracks (and a nice little hidden track on the cd).

Made up of the three sons and the nephew of an ex preacher they've got a sound which will appeal to many "rock" and indie fans etc...

Check out their website, which has audio and video clips on it for MOre!

Better than I'd expected, and giving it a second listen now it's getting better again! Might have to keep this one for myself!

    Copy Protected BTW

My double 10 inch vinyl isn't :) He he he...

Yeah, it's a pretty good album, but I have to admit I wish I'd got the CD as changing 10 inch sides on a Rega is a pain in the arse. Might back it up to CD anyway, 'cos the 2 psy-trance LPs I backed up onto CD for a mate have come out pretty well :)

I wish 101cd.com would deliver some of the stuff I've ordered from them - grrr..... At least they're delivering a Silver Apples CD I ordered - only 7 weeks later...

Sorry - bit of a ramble there! And now - back to - the Kings of leon!!!

Where did they get their title from by the way?

No idea where the name comes in, but I think its a cracking album.

I went for 10 inch double as well - First vinyl I ever saw with a "hidden" track on it. It is a bit of a pain, but I'm just a sucker for 10 inchers - er - so to speak. :(

I might wait until i can lend it of someone first before i think about buying it. What copy protection has it got, as most all you have to do is back it up on a pc, well i haven't come across one i can not back up.

On the last side the official tracks end, then there's five minutes of silent track and then the hidden track.

    I HATE hidden tracks.
Theyre such a flooking waste of time.

I mean does ANYONE actually like them?

    NB
If anyone sees the white stripes 'elephant' on vinyl for under 12 quid (as much as I like to spend!!) could ya let me know? I dont want to pay greedy HMV 17 quid!!

    Cheers

It was a tenner in FOPP last time I looked; same as with White Blood Cells and De Stijl. Mind you, Elephant sells as soon as it comes in...

I paid £17 for mine in Sound Machine - since it's the US version...

Yeah, I paid a tenner in Fopp, week it came out. Very good album, don't think it's their best like many seem to, White Blood Cells or De Stijl are better IMO.

Dom, is there any difference in the US version over the UK?

I think the only difference is the front cover, though my copy is very VERY slightly sibilant as well, so I reckon the UK pressing will sound better; mind you, it still sounds awesome on the vinyl I have.

The cover I have is a browny, almost sepia style cover, with a different photo, though don't ask me to remember what it looks like - it's in Exeter and I'm not right now :)

Santa delivered copies of this to both my younger brother, and my dad. I think my dad seen them on the Wonafun Woss show and mentioned in passing they were "ok". See how he gets on with them,,,,

    Ilockyer,

Dom is right - the only difference is the cover. Apparently the album has four different covers on the CD depending on which part of the world you are in and the vinyl cover is different from the CD cover. There is another version with a plain red sleeve which you may see going for silly money second hand - its a promo version. Last time I looked in Selectadisc (probably not one near you tho), all the Stripes albums were going for 11.99 on vinyl.

Oh yeah, I saw the Poo Stripes at Christmas. Funniest thing I've seen in ages. It was cruel but scarily accurate. I also thought the "Christmas Message from the Queen of Wales" aka Catherine Zeta Jones was superbly done - wonder if she'll sue :)
