I started this thread asking if anyone knew what she was up to these days as I'd not heard of her for a while.....

    A little google searching answered.

A new 3 piece called 50 Foot Wave, with Kristin on guitars and vocals. As well as a bassist and drummer. Seems like they plan to release an album every nine MOnths or so, with the first one being released toMOrow! Pretty weird that I've not listened to her for a while, then the day I stick a record on and get wondering and investigating happens to be the eve of the release of her latest release!

She's been pretty prolific throughout her career with 10 Throwing Muses albums, and a similar aMOunt of solo ones too!

I've not got much of this catalogue though, and when trying to find best place to start filling the gaps, Hips and Makers (which I've got and am currently listening to :) ) is mentioned as perhaps her best work, and the rest is all great too! Fair enough.

I've only got Hips and Makers (which is excellent), and the strings ep. Aswell as the Throwing muses album University.

Heard a few other bits and bobs, and liked them all so would ideally like to have them all :D But where best to start?

If you haven't got Hips and Makers then get it!!!

Opens with the excellent "Your Ghost" (complete with Michael Stipe on backing vocals), and the rest of the album continues with high standards. Acoustic and her unique vocals, with some piano and strings chucked in for good measure. She's regarded as a great lyricist, (I'm sure I once heard you can take courses in the US to learn her vocal and lyrical style), and in some places I'd agree...... but to be honest other times it just sounds like crazy ramblings! Sounds good though! And perhaps I've just not payed enough attention.

Amazon have it for £5!!! Go get it!

Hunkpapa was a good album by the Throwing Muses. Features the super-catchy pop-hit 'Dizzy' and the frantic but excellent 'Mania'. Go buy MO!
Oh and The Real Ramona, but really for the Tanya pop tunes.
