I have just achieved the equivalent of thousand pound plus upgrade for the price a £20 E bay purchase. I tracked down a copy of Bob Dylan's Biograph on vinyl, apparently unplayed, from the states. In fact it was not only in mint unplayed condition, I don't think the discs had ever been out of their sleeves.

So, what did they sound like? In short, quite stunning. I have owned a cop on tape and CD since it was first released and in that time I have replaced my entire system several times, sometimes with good results, sometimes bad. Recently I upgraded my CD replay with a Musical Fidelity Tri Vista DAC, which I am very pleased with, previously unlistenable CD's were transformed, good CD's sounded even better, more detail, more real, less digital! But the difference between the CD's and the vinyl, even played through the MF DAC, was stunning.

Anyone out there got Springsteen's River on unplayed vinyl?

No, but an unplayed copy of The River is something that I wouldn't mind either. The copy I have is good but a bit crackly in a couple of places. Biograph isn't a bad compilation of Dylan stuff, certainly all that you'd need really if you didn't want to buy any albums.

Oh, and any Tom Waits fans out there? He's playing Hammersmith Odeon on November 23, tickets on sale Sept 10 at 9am.
