Henryt really swearing in a forum, I must have touched on s sore subject!

Ok so you have listened to Linkin Park then? or are you just basing it on "oh well its new so I don't like it" theory?

I don't find there music depressing, I think it has a lot of teenage energy which I wish I still had! I guess it depends on hour seriously you take the lyrics, I personaly just listen to the tune.

When I first heard Linkin Park I didnt' think I'd like it, I'm not really a heavy / thrash (ok or nu) metal fan really but I like this.

Nirvana where ok, but only realy liked the commerical "chart" songs, come as you are, and snells like team spirit, did like the unplugs gig he did, would like to get hold of that album sometime.

Henryt, chill dude, you'll blow a gasket.

    Lee,

I think you may have lost the plot a bit here, IMO. You seem to like making snap decisions by taring things with the same brush very quickly and mis-interperting/mis-reading people's post (but I'm probably guilty of doing the latter with your posts sometimes too, right?). I was never about to blow a gasket in the offending reply I made more than 24 hours ago, and certainly won't be at this point in time. I'm totally :MILD:. After all, how regularly have I been perceived as an angry young man?

This forum isn't like the computer geek forums you tell me about, where every single spelling mistake or typo is even a cause for a flame session. Just because we have disagreements here, doesn't mean it's the end of the world. We state our case here, and no "real" blood is spilt.

So, without rising to the rest of the (wrongly perceived?) antagonistic under currents in your above post I'll answer the pertinent question and try to put this discussion back on top :) :

Yes, I have listened to a few Linkin Park tracks, mainly heard on the radio or playing in record shop, or whatever, but have never heard a complete album. I think I've heard enough to convince me that it's not my type of music. Yes, probably more for the adolescent teenage boy than a nearly 30 something like me, but I'm glad to report that I don't feel old. :D I'm not that naive that I slag off music that I've never heard of before. I always approach anything new with an open mind, doesn't matter if it's music I've never heard before whether written 2 days ago or 2 centuaries ago they all get a fair hearing.

And then one of the MOst sensible posts i've seen ;)

I try to follow the same approach. However, i'm pretty sure i've heard a tune that I may initialy think aint too bad, then when I hear who it is on a second listen it's not so apealing. Shouldn't be the case. A song's a song.

An example would be that Christina Aguiblah blah track "Beautiful". First I hear it was on a radio some distance away and with alot of background noise. Still, it stuck in my head and the next time I heard it, I was eager to hear who it was. Still thought it was a nice sentiment, but it lost it's apeal knowing who it was. Strange and silly, but true.

If the singer/band/musician is someone who I know i'm not into, then I find it taints my opinion. Shouldn't, but it does.

And talking of soundgarden, noticed how similar that tune sounds to Black Hole Sun?

Wow this paragraph is surely lifted from the "How To Sound Like An Archetypal Old Git Looking back at Times Gone By" manual.

heres another useful quote from said book, for future reference...

"You can't hear the word these days, its just a noise"

    :D

    Hi ram,

I'm actually the author of that book. Will be autographing copies for those interested, in the foyet at ZeroGain HQ at 5pm today. ;)

I'd guess that probably between 60-70% (or more  ) of the time, I'm not listening to the lyrics in a piece of music. Which probably explains a lot, lyric/word orientated music is lost on me.

Anyway, I'm off to the post office now to get my pension. I'll grab my walking stick, ghetto blaster and collection of Led Zep LPs on my way out. :D

Henryt didn't rate Soundgarden's Superunknown - that much I know 'cos I bought it and practically broke his arm to get him to play it - he wasn't impressed... :)

I have to admit, that when my dad was reading the paper in 1994 and said "Oh, that guy from Nirvana's shot himself" I said "Good!". Then I got force-fed "Nevermind" and then discovered their other, FAR SUPERIOR albums like "Bleach", and ate that badly chosen word...

That aside, I'm 28, and I think almost all nu-metal (poo-metal morelike) sounds the same - and you can't hear what they're sinigng half the time either...

That aside, what I've heard of Linkin Park seems OK. Puddle of mudd on the other hand suck - my housemate has loads of this generic whiney-moaney distortion "metal" stuff and to say it all blurs into itself is an understatement. His Aiwa midi probably doesn't do the music any favours, but I guarantee it'd sound worse on a good rig anyway!

The Deftones were pretty damn good in 1998 at Reading though - dunno where they went wrong between then and your seeing of them Ian :)

Funnily enough - I picked up Jesus Jones' Doubt on vinyl for 50p a couple of weeks back - it's great! Give me that kind of vibe, glam 80s cheese-rock like Cinderella, or some old-skool like Sabbath or vintage Maiden over shod like Limp Jizkit any day of the week thanks.

The Avril Lavigne album's OK - but it's a grower I reckon. Not as whiney as a lot of complaint nu-metal...

One thing though - is the N.E.R.D. album any good - I loved "Rock star"...?

No, I'm not really sure what went on with the Deftones that day, whether they just had a bad one or not, I don't know. We'd not heard anything of theirs, just read a few positive reviews, so thought we'd check them out. Maybe it was an off-day, but Limp Jizkit and Blink 182 were better, at least they seemed to be really into what they were doing, which carried across to the crowd. Deftones just plodded their way through, finished 10 mins earlier than the allotted end time and buggered off. Foo Fighters put on a blinding show though, the power was cut on them because they over-ran, so they carried on playing the last song even though only about the 1st row could hear!

Anyone head either of the albums by Staind? I heard a single of theirs back along that was quite good, reminded me a fair bit of The Almighty (are they still going?)... and is that Jane's Addiction album any good?

A huge load of posts again since my last visit! It's good people are discussing various aspects of rock music. Though nobody even mentioned my fav rock album of all time, Appetite for Destruction :MILD: . Did anyone else see Gun N' Roses back in 93 at Milton Keynes, was an enlightening experience!

How very constructive :D I do agree though.

Dean, The GnR albums were aMOngst the first I went out and bought MOself (on cassette :) ). Not got any of them anyMOre other than "Lies" on vinyl. Listened to this again the other day, and there's some decent tunes on it!!!!! Shock Horror!!! The "G" side isn't really my thing, a bit too metalish. But the "R" side (wow! how cool! G and R sides) is much better! Acoustic tracks and much better.
