I just noticed 'The Aliens' album 'Luna' is avaiable for download from linnrecords website. You can download at 48hz 24bit.

Has anyone tried any of these 'High Res' downloads and if so how do they compare to the CD or a standard Wav / Flac rip?

This may be best in the main audio section so Mods feel free to move.

I tried the "free" 24 bit sample disk that's on the website and also downloaded a full album. Have to say that I was rather impressed. Definitely has the edge over 16 bit for absolute SQ.
Of course it's all a little pointless when there's very little on it, and if it makes it more mainstream, I guess the majors will simply abuse it in another loudness war.

Don't know what kind of music you like but try downloading the Aliens tracks 'Dove Returning' and / or 'Boats'. Definitely a bit Psychedelic, they are class. I think I'll give it a whirl and compare to my CD.

    I use:
    SB+ > Thule processor (used as a DAC) > Bel Canto Evo2i > Impulse Ta'us
