i was just wondering what peoples listening habits were.
do you buy a cd and play it until you can't stand it anymore or do you insert it into a rotation of a few cd's that are currently in favour.
do you trawl your collection going on old genre jags on purpose or do you pick an album out at random and see where it takes you?
    cheers

I tend to have favourites that will be played for ages, then move on to something else. I go around and round like that.

I generally let my mood or the length of my "to do" list decide what I listen to.

As far as non-classical CDs go, they tend to get played with a frequency inversely proportional to how long I've owned them, with some of the oldest (by that I mean, longest owned) CDs in my collection lucky to see the light of day once a year.

With classical, it's whatever I feel like.

I seem to get a bunch of new CDs each month then play them to death. On first listen I read the CD sleeve notes, track info, etc. and try to commit it to memory. I then repeat the tracks I like the most.

Then when I get some more discs the previous ones won't get played for ages. Then I stumble on them a year or so down the line and couldn't remember even buying them in the first place.

I now seem not to be able to remember track info and artist names. Prolly because I now seem to buy too many compilation albums.

Most music I buy blind, without listening to first. Some I like and some take a while to grow on me.

Oh, and I can't walk out of a record shop empty handed or with a single disc. It has to be two or more! :)

I generally have a load of CDs next to my player which are my current playlist. They get changed at varying intervals.

I play stuff pretty randomly, mostly. Only way to give the dusty corners of the collection a fair crack of the whip.

Just about all my musical purchases are "blind" so I like to sit down and read the album details through during the first listening, (unless its that good), then it will generally get played half a dozen times and finally filed away, (alphabetically by genre of course!). When around I normally get my girlfriend to pick the CD's as this way I get to hear stuff I've forgotten about.

I tend to go through my collection once, then change the kit and listen again to hear the differences ;)

Lately, I only really seem to have music on when there's people round, or when I'm at others houses. So tends to be anything others choose, or if I want to play a certain thing I think they'd like.

When I'm in full on hours of music each day MOde, I tend to have some fav's I'll listen to pretty often mixed in with whatever's new. I make an effort to dig out things that haven't been played for a while.

I prefer not to choose, so lately it is lots of Mezzo, otherwise I listen to whatever comes to mind, and sometimes just look for a disc I have not heard for a long time...

I stick on whatever I feel like; at the mo, I have about 4 sealed Ozrics CDs and a couple of other purchases from the last year that I've STILL not played, as I'm not in the mood. Sometimes I'll wear albums out to death, then not play them for ages, or I'll just stick on stuff "almost" at random - kind of going with the flow.

With the trend of longer single-artist CDs now, I very rarely listen to a CD all the way through as I get bored - QOTSA's "Songs for the deaf" has only been played half way through - I don't know how the last 30 minutes sound! Things like the Zutons or Auf de Mer are a bit different though :)
