Just got back from London Village having attended the big gig yesterday, gotta say, on the whole it was absolutely brilliant, well, so long as you take Madge (just play a CD and let your dancers get on with it love.......) and Mariah Carey (dont get me started) out of the equation, IMO that is.........

Stereophonics were so good live, Floyd were great, and i only knew 'Brick in The Wall' before last night  and The Who were showing more energy on stage than i was at that stage in the day......
I'd be interested to know just how much footage the BBC showed of the stuff we were shown about the whys and wherefores of the the event, i'm betting the answer is not a lot, i guess those watching TV just got to see Wossy interviewing folk in his perspex bubble?.....

As for U2 looking tired, mmm , give the guys a break - they are, in the middle of a huge tour.....

Absolute stand out moments for me were Annie Lennox singing Why with the live aid footage being screened and then later seeing one of the children from that footage all grown up and on stage.....

As for the atmoshphere, yeah, i expected and air of electricity around the place but there was not one, fun and camaraderey yes, but not electric, but that got me thinking
Live Aid was, afaik, a first of its kind. Yeah, festivals have been around for a long time but surely Live Aid was the first global event? That one event has, in the intervening years, spawned broadly similar events that keep the lives of those less fortunate than ourselves in our minds. Add to that the fact that the 'stars' are now seemingly 10 a penny and never out of our faces and it never was going to match the feel of Live Aid....
Ultimately, i think the atmoshpehe was a result of those being there realising that the day really was about something much much bigger tha just music...

Did not go to the festival but started watching it on TV. On the whole it seemed like it did what it was designed to do but personally I was furious at the gutter language being used on stage by artists so early on in the day (how many MF's does Snoop Dog and and the following guitar band need to use at 6:30 in the evening).

We have young children and while we can not protect their ears from such obsenities when they are at school we do rely (especially as TV licence payers), to be able to switch on the TV before the water-shed and not have to worry about our kids ears being polluted with obscentities from people who IMHO are doing the cause no favours by using un-educated gutter language to appear as though they are making a point!

    Right I'v said it,...I'm off ;)

I dont think swearing on TV just for 'effect' or 'being in da hood' is clever either. However, I always remember what the late great Dave Allen said about adults swearing in front of children -

"What do you mean apologise for swearing in front of kids? I learnt all those words from kids!"

Quite true when I think back. The only word I remember getting in trouble over using after hearing my dad use it was 'turd' when I was 3 years old. Those were the days.
