    Hi

I'd reccomend going for the one you like the best.

I've got a plain-jane SB3..no mods, no changes - going into tens of thousands of pounds of amps and speakers.... and that's my only digital source.

I could (at some future point) use an out-board dac, but don't feel the need right now.

Actually - I use (this) laptop as a big wireless remote control so for me the Duet remote would be a waste of time.

If you don't plan to use a mobile or laptop or similar then go Duet I suppose.

    Hi,

I have two SB3s and a Duet and I think I would agree with what I've read elsewhere that the SB3 classic has the edge in sound quality when comparing internal DACs. However, there is not a lot of difference and with the duet the controller is a big plus if you don't want to have the PC nearby. And then there's the new device coming out soon, the Squeezebox Touch?

    Cheers,
    Tony

Does the SB3 require software on a PC to operate or is it DLNA\uPnP? I can't find any mention of anything on the logitech website.

That's poor - looks like you have to run it from a PC or Netgear ReadyNAS. Rubbish.

It requires SqueezeCenter software that will run on Windows or Linux (I run it on Suse 11) for the SB3, Duet and Boom.

The SqueezeCenter supports multiple SB3/Receivers so that you can have the same music library shared, plus you can synch them to all play the same playlist. It's actually really quite good. :MILD:

There's a new device called the Squeezebox Touch that has it's own inbuilt Squeeze Center software and USB port so that you can attach a drive locally or use a NAS over the network.

    Cheers,
    Tony

You can download the software from Logitechs website - it's free. I've installed it and it seems ok.

It's just very poor that it doesn't do DLNA. As 95% of media players do you would think that this would.
