I am using monoblock amps sited next to speakers with 5m pair cheapish interconnects and fairly/very expensive monolith 1m speakercables(x4 as biwired)
    Other interconnects first ultimate.
Should I be using short interconnects and long speaker cables?
    Does it matter?
Any recommendations(orca to alectos to audionote anE lx)?
sounds ok but you know how it is.

That is the 'traditional' way to run mono blocks. Speaker cables are meant to pick up more noise than interconnects.

I was under the impression that inters carried more delicate signal so were more prone to picking up inerference which is why they are always screened yet not mant speaker cables are? Also doesn't the impedence become a problem with long inters?

That was my impression too, but I can assure you the short sp/long ic approach is what Linn, for one, recommends. I guess it is the lesser of two weevils.

S'pose with monoblocks your creating a pseudo active speaker, although with the x-over still in place (unless like me you don't have a x-over)
