Right I don't want much, but I want something of reasonable appearance, ie not scuffed to bits, with 4 shelves, the top one for a turntable, and one fairly sizeable gap, the valve amp that will go on is 22cm high, so ideally one gap needs to be able to be about 27-30cm. The other two would need to be about 12cm and 8cm, I've got to get my Rotel RCD991 and an Arcam tuner onto the rack as well. I'd quite like one with three legs, so I could hide the cables in the back leg. That would make Mrs Summit very happy, but that's a wish not a necessity. The other thing is it must not have is light wood anywhere. That would be an offence that would have the gravest of consequences.

I would be willing to come and get it if you were somewhere within about 100 miles of Manchester

For this item I have the grand total of £100 give or take a few pennies. I can't sell another kidney.

    Not after the last three....

the frame of project tonne control might be wrestled from my grasp if you're interested. The add-on top shelf gives you a 300mm gap over the one beneath, then there's 200mm and two 150mm gaps (5 tiers with top shelf installed). It's 4 legged, but the back legs are close together in a pseudo-three leg configuration.

You need to fit shelves into those gaps along with the components. The granite I've been using isn't up for sale though, but you can source glass or granite without too much difficulty.

Otherwise I can draw up designs for a new Tonne control, which you could have the frame welded up for £60-£80.

    lordsummit,
i have an alphason rack which *may* becomming surplus to requirements in the very near future. it has blue glass shelves, matt silver uprights, the bottom shelf has 24cm clearence and it's a tripod design so easy to stabilise and it has cable tidy holes running through each shelf. it has 5 shelves too so room for remotes, ornaments or cd / lp cases. cost me 250 quid new - i'd let it go for 100.
the only slight problem may be distance. i'm a fair way away from manchester but if you wanted we could arrnage something. i'll have to re-arrange my kit a bit so let me know if you're interested and i'll hurry up the reorganise if you are.
piccy in the my kit link in my sig.
    cheers

How much? I think I'd be using MDF to start with as have a friend who's a chippy. How much was your granite, because I'm sure that would be the best solution. Toughend glass that would be thick enough to hold the valve amp would be very expensive

Julian that's very interesting as well. Your piccie isn't showing here at school, so I'll have a look at home later.
Cheers guys, we're getting close I think

I got my granite for free, just paid for the cutting. The edges aren't finished/polished though (it will cost £100+ per shelf if you want that). The material was "left over" bits from a place that does granite kitchen tops, so if they can sell it on for not much, it's still good for them (often it's cash in hand ;)).

It worked out on average around £15-£20 per shelf.

Sorry Zanash that one wouldn't fit in, I'm looking for something vertical. I think I'm going to get one made a la Isaac. I'm fancying gloss black, but haven't decided on the shelf material yet, might even be real wood!

We (The AudioWorks, Cheadle) have an ex display Sonus Eclipse 4 tier rack surplus to requirements. It's a silver painted steel frame with smoked glass shelves, the middle 2 can be positioned on pegs to suit. RRP on it is £189, yours for £75. No packaging, so a no no to ship. If you're interested, give me a bell at the shop on 0161 428 7887.

    cheers,

    Ed.
