There's plenty more examples of this though... Take the Sago mine explosion which left 12 trapped... that was front-page news for days. Meanwhile, a similar explosion in russia this morning with 28 dead and 11 trapped warrants 5 words on the BBC news front page.

Couldn't agree more. Dreftar I feel for you. Five years and being placed on a register is nothing compared to the damage that has been done to others.

Maddie's parents however were negligent, we've waited years to have children, and now it looks like we've succeeded, I can't imagine leaving them unattended until it's appropriate to. Had they not been two such 'well educated' and 'upstanding' members of the community the spotlight would have fallen on them. The initial selfishness of their actions (We want to have a nice meal together, without the children...) wouldn't have escaped the gaze of the media. I can see the headlines now.

'Child goes missing whilst parents drink....'

does it really matter if theres a lot of media coverage if the reason behind such is to promote awareness....we al know the parents have screwed up , but the media should, I agree, say this, rather than skirt around the issue. However, if it were my kid...id be on the news every second i could get, if it gave me even a milllionth more of a percentage chance that I may get lucky and it led to a happy conclusion.....for this , i couldnt give a jot that its on the news...i hope it works, for the families sake....if it does...its a stroke of genius by the family...if it doesnt, well its inconvenienced the viewers for a few weeks....so what

on the subject of car posters etc...I think that some get carried away with the hype...but ..if two people on this forum noted the poster, then hundreds would......what if one of these people paid attention to a car poster and went abroad on their hols to say spain.....and spotted the child in a remote area . then it would have served its purpose...have you ever been somewhere remote and bumped into someone you never expected to see in a million years...."fate" ..is what I often call it..I was in disney land paris and bumped into a work colleauge as i stepped back onto his foot at an ice cream store and then turned to say sorry.....I mean what are the chances? for that reason..is why people are hopeful that their contribution COULD help in someway...longshot or not

    no, you didn't say that.

    Its possible.

As some one else pointed you can't blame the mccanns for making the best use of the resources available....they've needed all the help they can get....just a bit of a sorry situation that so little has come of it.

I'm not an expert but i this investigation seems to have been handled less than perfectly, I just read one report that said, effectively, that the crime scene was extremely poorly protected.

the day (or two) after the abduction i watched a bbc news man stop his car (in the releavent area in portugal) and state he had been driving for two hours and hadn't seen any police searching etc.

There have been many critisms cited.

At least the British police seem to have stab at it.
