I know I'm in a minority of one at work, so don't expect many to agree with me, but is anyone with me in thinking "Hung up" is the best record la Ciccione has ever made ??. Or did I listen to too much Abba and Sylvester in my formative years ??.

I think it will be MASSIVE. Paddy Power have it 66/1 to be Xmas No 1. Place your bets now !!.

...well I loved the whole Disco a-la Sylvester sound (which followed on into me being a huge House-head as well), but the Madonna single is pure cr*p IMHO.

I'll tell you why it's so good.

It (and the rest of her new album) has been produced by a guy called "The white Duke." He's also the guy that does Jacques LeCont (think that's how it's spelled) You should listen to his album Dark Dancer on the label Wall of Sound, it's great!

(he's also done a brilliant remix of a Royksopp song, which is out now - see if you can have a listen).

Is it being released for Christmas or before to help Album sales?

I had high hopes for it because I like some Madonna stuff and I like royksopp but...

Thats the crappiest producing I have ever heard! I mean what is he, a club DJ? Well done to him, he found the parametric EQ ;) But... he does have a cool name! Ah, he messed up her voice too.

Ray of Light was a good album, can't she do more like that?

errrr, I've only heard the madonna song (and the royksopp remix) on my immensely crap phone radio. As you can guess, the resolution is similar to a drunk cat singing all the songs. But then it is a 'sony' ;)

    I think it's quite a catchy tune - nothing more,nothing less.

Heard it on the radio just a moment ago. Admittely, I do like ABBA's music *blush* and the single itself sounds pretty good.

Anything with ABBA samples in is enough to put me off without listening to it, and I've NOT heard it yet.

That said, if it's got (good) disco overtones, I might like it. I was listening to Chic on 8track last night - now *that's* something to blush about - he he!

As an aside, but still related to Madge, Jellybean produced some of her early work. Does anyone here know whatever happened to Adele Bertle who sang on his "Just a mirage" track? She had a pretty cool voice, and if the low-resolution image in NOW12's booklet/sleeve is anything to go by, was rather fit. Maybe that's just her hat though??? (sorry - I have one hell of a girls-in-hats fetish!)

I like the video, letcherous git that i am.
The tune went to #1 simply because of the Abba hook. Yet again Madge has done it again, i suppose it wouldn't hurt one of these days to actually put some of her stuff in my collection, as she has been one of the most successfull recording artists of my generation...
If i was to listen to a montage of her hits I'm sure that i'd regognise and like an awful lot of them, however for some reason whenever i hear that Madonna is releasing a new single or album i dismiss it out of my mind instantly, but it's probably just a non justified snob reaction...

    Nope.
For stuff like American Life that reaction is fully justified. :)

I don't think this Confessions album is as 'good' as Ray of Light.
Can't put my finger on why, just it seems it's missed the boat jumping on the 70's Disco 'thang, man'.
There's a track with a Donner Summer I Feel Love hook line too - wtf?

Yeah I like this tune. Good strong pop number. Won't be buying Madonna albums but some of her singles are good to hear on the radio. She fits into my 'Disposable Music' category. Tunes I like to hear on the radio but wouldn't bother buying any albums. Although I have a copy of Music which was pretty good.

OK - I finally heard it on 12inch at mine (cheers Marcus!). That sample is classic - very well done. There lies proof that once in a while something by ABBA can be decent, when it's not in an ABBA context ;)

Vocals sucked, but musically, it's OK, though I'd not buy it.

As for Madge as a redhead on that sleeve - phwoar! I so still would - with a bit of Kate Bush on the side!

I love her new single. It almost prompted me to go out and buy the album, which would be a Mad-onna first for me!!

Unfortunately the video has madonna in a leotard trying to do the Eric Prydz/Jennifer Lopez thing. Dunno bout you guys, but the thought of being even remotely turned on by a woman over 35 makes my stomach turn....

In fact, I think the entire video is an enormous compliment to Kylie, whom she is clearly attempting to emulate....
