Now there is a much better cable available than the Pirelli Screenflex S2 :)

    Belden 83802
Two 12-gauge conductors, Teflon insulation with double foil/braid shield.

See the "TNT TTS Mains Cable" thread in the DIY section.

TTS use Kimber style weaving similar to the Reference PowerKordâ„¢ by Russ Andrews; priced at £115 for 3 feet. TTS made with Belden 83802 you also get Teflon insulation, double screening and much thicker cores.

Getting them in small lengths is a problem though :(

Greg if you want braided mains cable check out "sid's posh power cable" on the Sid and Coke website (he's a member here) excellent and around £10 for 2m the most expensive component is the Nylon braiding about £15 for 10m from RS rest of the stuff yoiu can get at maplin.

Sorry Greg/Bluemax, with this being the Buy & Sell forum I thought I was posting off topic, so I deleted it. It appears the mods aren't as strict here then ;)

Thanks for the advice regarding the screen, I've just finished making 4 'Merlino' cables tonight. I used SY cable rather than the perfered CY cable, due to the fact that I could find somewhere that sells SY by the meter, rather than 50m rolls as with CY.

I'll run them in tonight and see how they sound tomorrow - far too late to try them now!

    Four Merlinos! :)

Mains cables need a lot of burning in. So give it a few hours before evaluating.

I use the main cable as an extension cable for couple weeks in the kitchen and power fridge/freezer, washing machine, etc before cutting to short lengths for hifi. Last year I did A-B testing using the cables from the same reel; to make sure this 'breaking in' phenomena is not all in the mind :D

Yeah, I figured that even if they didn't sound good, they look mighty priddy :D
