Rob I was just about to post this when it disappeared

If you guys want a laugh, isoteks cheaper mains cables are these, with furutec plugs on for £49 and £79@m not bad for 79p@m cables.
We have tried a lot of these derietives form 3 core no sheilded to 4 core 2.5mm fully dual screened, with and without fancy connectors, well they are better than the stock lead for sure, we knocked up a couple for the bake off, Iassc had one on home load for a few weeks, at first he couldn't tell any difference then after he changed something (I can't remeber) he started to notice subtle differnces, we also tried it at the bake off too.
You much better off using the belden stuff, you can make a good lead with decent ish connectors for about 38-£40 so worth a punt. WM

    Mains

Just reading all the threads about mains supply and cables. I have written a review about the TNT twisted snake diy cable, which I rate very highly. For a low outlay as long as you make it correctly, Zanash is the man to talk to. I have also tried cables from Black Rhodium and Russ Andrews in the past, which in my opinion have little effect. I have a dirty mains supply, the result was I bought a Lynwood mega mains filter/power supply. It works a treat and made me realise what a bad electricity supply can do for your hifi, make it sound poor! I have no commercial interest, nor do I work in the industry. I didn't follow the mains supply threads to which some of you think most of us have been brain washed.

    Nicely put .............I agree totally.

The cost of the TNT TTS is relatively small , with big gains..............if you get good results with it just think what a pucker mains cable will do to your system [that an ironic comment]

Can anyone provide a link to the Lynwood mains kit. I can't seem to find their presence on the net.

Did the other Mains cable thread get ugly whilst i was away, just wondered why it dissappeared without a trace. :(

Hope noboy minds but here is a link to my DIY mains cable effort. It is now in its improved Mk 2 version with a Black MK 'Duraplug' instead of the white MK 'safety plug' Sids Posh Power Cord

Does your cable make a worthwhile improvement? I know it's a 'how long's a piece of string' type question, but would prefer some basic insight before spending half a day giving it a go.

    Dave,
At the moment I have mislaid my stock, Rotel OEM, moulded IEC, power lead for my Pre amp, which i was going to use as the benchmark that had to be improved upon. I intended to do a bit of a demo, as much to see if i could honestly hear ANY difference with the different power leads , let alone improvements ( or retrogressions ).
I have started to conduct some initial minor demo's yesterday (Friday) using; my DIY power lead, a £30 RA 'Yello' and a £35 UKD Kemp Lo-Power cord. The results where pretty promising, there was very little to choose between any of them ! If i was playing Russian roulette and i had to spot which cord was which ( blind) after having heard and seen them used sighted , and my very life depended on getting them right , i honestly wouldn't fancy my chances of survival !
So far I'm pretty happy with this , especially as my power cord only worked out/cost me about £7 in money and 2+ hours in time to make ! As I've said in other places though, I actually like tinkering around and doing this sort of stuff, just for the sheer hell of it, it's all part of the whole hobby for me, so in that respect I've already had my £7 worth of enjoyment out of them just in the construction, and passing on the info on my webpage.

I genuinely needed another power cord for a PSU i had just constructed. I was going to order a stock moulded one but then remembered a DIY article i saw in HFW about a year or so ago, where one of the Magazine guys made a diy power cord , very similar to mine. It just sparked an idea and i thought i'd do one too.
I was going to leave it at that as i only needed one , but as the build was kinda therapeutic I thought I'd make another and take some pics along the way.

I won't be able to honestly say whether my cord is an upgrade to a stock power cord until i can find one and test it. I suppose i'll have to venture up into the loft, where i keep my empty boxes to find one. Because of my initial demo's I doubt at the moment that I will ever by another 'budget' Power cord again though, the improvements over my cord just don't seem to either exist, or certainly haven't made themselves obvious in a night and day kind of way.

Sorry about the ramble but to get back to one of your Q's:
It does for me, but you will only know whether it is any good for you if you try it , sorry .

    Best Regards
    Sid.
