I think most people who have tried it would agree that a Mana wallshelf improves the sound of a LP12 albiet at the cost of visual taste and the increased risk of losing your wife/partner.

A high percentage of Mana owners run Naim equipment and the modern stuff is less dependant on racking. so Mana has little or no effect on the sound of the newer stuff but may have improved the old stuff.

Possibly it has a role for £99 CD players has advocated by Mr Pig. However he also suggested that Wendy houses improved the sound also with rubbing the painted finish off a RB300, so he does have a credibility problem. JW would do well to quietly remove Pig from the forum. In the old days Pig was totally obnoxious and now he is just repeats the obvious.

Bub has old Naim so possibly his system will benifit from Mana. However if I was in his shoes, I would sell the lot including the Mana and buy the new Naim stuff.

Mana still has a niche in the market but a significantly reduced one. Times change and if we don't change we die.

    Regards

    Mick

Being pe-occupied sharpening one's axe does tend to have this effect...
You appear to be saying that the Naim Fraim is now useless, due to the release of Naims new range?

Its not as grave as you think it is. I returned the Ninja LP12 and upgraded to the Orbe some 2-3 years before. I'd just never taken it off Mana until after I got my ATCs in Oct '04. I Stayed with Mana under them getting used to changes and formulating theories and ways of testing them until 1 Feb '05 when I tried a side-by-side comparison (note: you do need to have speakers to sit on Glass to be considred correct for the Mana purists, but Phase 10 in stages should account for something): yet it did nothing for me. I think 4 months is enough time to see wood for trees don't you?

Basically please don't assume I've not done any reaserch into this: Surfaces can and do make slight changes and if any support does work it works by different mechanisms for Turntables and Speakers and Amplifiers and needs to be proven/debunked accordingly.

I do with the speaker platforms but not for the deck stand - except maybe once or twice a year. The table has a solid top so you wont get a puncture.

I think saying the amazon and vpi are conceptually similiar is a bit of a jump - both black and made of acrylic? What type of decoupling did the vpi use.

Its as I thought - a stand of the same height as phase xx sounds exactly the same and the "mana effect" is just the effect of raising the unit from the floor. I guess that kind of nonsense is the kind of over milking I was referring to that has helped drive them out of business.

I haven't used the Townsend platforms but do have 2 voodoo air platforms - similar concept but wooden.

The Orbe sits on one - I found this improved soundstage and bass and took a slight edge of the treble which the original torlyte platform gave it. Maybe having the motor suspended via the air interface helps it in this respect.

I also have the PSU on a psu voodoo which also seems to have made a slight difference.

Similar to the Townsend, I tend to pump the platform up maybe a couple of times a year.

The Voodoo makes a HUGE improvement under the Denon DVD2900

    Damn right.

The Denon is very fussy about what you put it on - even more so than an LP12  IMO

And it has been on my Mana - modern equipment, not Linn or Naim and, erm, it didn't like it one little bit.

Hi Fox, I would never assume anything - and it sounds like you have arrived at your set-up after much hard toil; I'm glad it works for you.

I'm happy with my system & see no reason to change it, every experience I've had with mana leads me to believe it has a very positive effect on my system. I think we're coming from slightly different angles as I'd never have the multi, multi, multi-phase set-up that you used to have & so haven't invested so much time & money in it.

I don't feel the need to prove or debunk any theory; although it was actually you on Pink Fish who prompted me to try my system off the mana to see how it was influencing the components - having tried this I'm satisfied it works with my relatively modern gear.
