Exactly...I'm waiting for kerbside collection to start where I live to save me carting a big box of bottles to tesco and putting them one by one into the wasp infested holes. They're running trials down the road and its great to see the orange bags for recycling out on the pavements. It saves a whole lot of hassle and its great to see stuff being recycled that once would have been straight into landfill. Make the most of it...have a tub for organic waste in your kitchen and just empty it when its full.

Its great to see councils moving forward on this.

I am still not convinced we will have anything to put in but we shall see. In our house I think a plastic bottle recylcling bin will be more useful. My dad has to go to the recycle banks every week with millions of plastic bottles - we don't have a milk man anymore.

you may not, but many others will, so a worthwhile endevour.

BTW, do you peel spuds or carrots etc in your house?

Not every often, about three times a weeek at the most I would say, we are not exactly very veggy people. I can't see many other people using it in my road as I was discussing above, a lot of the peoplew who live round here are "rent as you go" trendies where haven't left their student attitudes behind them. People can't even use wheely bins correctly, they will just get full up with none recycable litter.

    Paranoid BOLLOX!

Council generate income from re-cyling. IF people have to pay for it at sometime in future; so be it!
    It is an essential service.

Another point to remember. Rubbish will be a lot less in the first place, if we as consumers put pressure on the food-processing industry and the supermarkets to stop them un-necessary packaging material.

not at all BM, South Gloucester council have said as much themselves. At the moment it is a trial run, with a view to implement a payment scheme in the future.
Most plastic recycling costs nearly as much as the value of the end product, so not much financial benefit either.
    Please check your facts:)

We have all that and more at my local tip in Street.

We have boxes for paper, tins and glass that are collected every two weeks.

We have subsidised composters in various sizes available from local garden centres. I have two huge ones. It's not often I have to take green stuff to the tip (only when I trim the laurels and leylandii). All vegetarian food waste goes in the composters - even eggs shells, tea bags and coffee grounds.

I only need to put my bin out once a month as there's hardly anything in it these days.

I was just talking about utopian living in my office. I wonder if anywhere has got close to full recycling, full renewable energy use, bicycle lanes, good clean public transport, green areas, local produce etc. It would be amazing to see all the technology and systems available being used in one place and still succeeding as a community. One day maybe.

Manchester in now under South Gloucester Council
What are these goddamn Bristolians upto ?

In any case what is so bad about paying for an essential service?

If anyone want to do something positive, instead of sitting on their fat arse and moaning, get your council to put an extra tax on supermarkets and food-processors.

That will give them incentive to reduce wastage int he first place by reducing un-necessary packaging.
Will also reduce food prices, minimise waste, save energy, save the trees, save the f-fing planet and what have you.

did i say it was in south gloucester?
again, you dont report true facts:rolleyes:

It is bad when we already have to pay over 1k a year for coucil tax, then we are taxed to the hilt in other ways.

Some people only think about their wallets. Hit them where it hurts with Council Taxes and they will get off their arses will do something.

There is always the other option of running away from the "armpit of the south" to Manchester. :p

Your a strange man arent you.
I am fully aware of enviromental issues, and support organisations that try to help, infact i would think i have done much more than yourself, with my work for conservation groups and my time spent as a tree surgeon and enviromental/recycle worker (when i was younger). I also donate money to certain charities whos work is in this area.
It has nothing to do with my wallet, it is to do with councils mis-spending money and handing the extra cost to us.

Do try to keep up, there's a good chap.

    :D

That is all relative, ain't it?
Ever used a compass? When outside Bristol?

Anyways, why do you think that it is the "armpits" ?
    Clifton?!
    or
    St. Pauls ?!

no BM, whats a compass, please tell....
I have used a device that pointed north with indications of south, west and east, i used it on various occasions like when walking in the lake district, dartmoor, the highlands, snowdonia, brecons, south downs and isreal, to name a few. Is that the thing you mean? Strangely i used the same device underground on a few occasions aswell.

Do you have a sense of humour, i severly doubt you do.
Seeing as you know Bristol, why dont you work it out for yourself, I live in north Bristol, so not near either of the suburbs you mentioned.

Now, back on topic, what do you yourself do to aid enviromental issues?

I used to live in Barnwell Hall inside Patchway Drome for an year. Then it was north of Bristol. Not sure now cos there has been magnetic deviation leading to compass error.

Most important thing I do to aid enviromental issues is to campaign against Tree Sugeons. They cause damage to the trees, birds nests, kill various life forms on tree branches and thereby upsetting the delicate natural balance 'man' know so little of. Tree Surgeons also use up energy resources and cause noise pollution with their chain saws.

PS. Tree Surgeons contracted by the Council are also responsible for high Council Taxes.

    :p :D

you know nothing of true tree surgeory, that is very obvious
come back when you understand, we know more of natural balance than you could understand.
BM, stop your usualy crap and actualy say somthing to substantiate your argument.

PS, i did not work for a company that subied to local authorities
