I have a CD52Mk2, which is a lovely CD player, but the idler pinion that drives the CD tray is knackered and needs replacing. I found what I think is it, on the web at Donberg electronics, (Ireland) , but it seems these are not now available.
I note on the CD50 thread that the tray mechanism seems the same, and that it may be quite a common one.
    Can anyone suggest a source?

I had the same problem with mine. The orange cog set just disintegrated. I just removed it and stuck some folded over tape on the drawer so i could still pull it open.
No suggestions for a replacement though.

OK Andy it looks that there may be a lot of us needing this part.
There must be someone who knows where we can get them?
    Please?

I've got rid of mine and replaced it with a CD63ki but i suspect your best bet is to find a cheap Cd52 on Ebay or try and source a new transport off the net.

Just been given a player the same, with the same problem. One spindle on the idle wheel has broken off. Does seem really flimsy, what's it made from, feels like a weird rubber/plastic hybrid?

I was wondering if it would be possible to get another idler machined on a cnc lathe or similar. Do you think one made from another material would still work ok, aluminum, plastic etc? No idea how much it would cost and whether it would be worth while, since these players seem to only go for around £40 on ebay. I do have an Uncle with an engineering business with the equipment to do this, I shall have to give him a ring.

Worst comes to worst, could always try running it with a manual tray. Take out the duff idler and fashion a handle on the front of the tray. Not sure how well this would work with the disc registering software though.

It worked fine on my cd52. I stuck some sellotape to the underside of the tray front and folded the excess neatly in half to use as a handle. Didn't look too bad either.
