Although I am fairly satisfied with my 'budget' system Sony cdpxb720 marantz pm7200 and acoustic energy floorstanders I feel the oldest part (sony player) is letting things down. The marantz cd7300 seems to be going for a good price now £249 in many retailers ..is this a good player for this system? or would a s/h cd6000ose be a better VFM bet

I'm not sure, the I have the CD6000 OSE LE, it is a good player at any price. Its built like a bomb and has some qood quality parts in there. Mine beats by old Sony CDPXE530 in every way.

It has that real 'Marantz' sound about it. The 7300 was made in the Denon era rather than the Philips one so its likely to be a different machine entirely.

Why not listen to them both? The CD6000 OSE is probably going to be cheaper because its a new model, I have the OSE LE model which has some slight improvements to the standard OSE.

The Marantz "KI" stuff is always worth it if you want a fine hifi sound.

Thats a point I reckon £250 would buy you a KI second hand. I could have bought the KI brand new in last year but it would have been a bit too much so I got the 6000 OSE LE which was half price at £150.

I've seen 63KIs going on ebay for about £40 recently. I'd buy one of those. I prefer it to the 6000s

Thanks for replys ..from the above i get the feeling that the older cd6000 and its 'ose' and 'ki' variants is better than the 7300 .May just take the plunge and buy s/h at least I wont loose much if not happy with sound. Out of interest has anyone here actually heard the cd7300? and how does it compare to new rival players like the CA azur 640c?

Err I hope that was a typo? Ive seen some go for around 150 160. Only stuff badly knocked about goes for less than 100. Even ones needing a new mech go for more than 40 quid. :)

As for the 7300, ive not heard it. I have heard the Azur 640c and was extremely underwhelmed. The CD63 KI and the CD6000 OSE LE probably be good bets (the CD6000 KI will be more and probably not as easy to live with sonically)

Wasnt what - a typo? Well all i can say is that id be buying them up at 40 quid and selling them to all those who are paying 150/60+ A quick look in completed items and thats what can be found for CD63 KI's. I saw a bust one go for approx 70 i think a couple of months ago, which i nearly bought because replacing the mech is childs play and i thought i could make a few quid.

It was a little while ago now, there was one that went for about £40-50 and I saw the £70 one as well. Its a joke really when the 6000's still go for 'normal' prices on there.

Bit the bullet today and bought a brand new cd7300 ,had a quick listen in the shop with a pm7200 and some B&w 602 stuck on the end ..sounded pretty good in the shop .took it home and plugged it in the system ..although I wasnt bowled over straight away I did notice improved refinement..the more I listened the more I liked..and its a bloody solid machine ...reminds me of the rotel rcd965bx I used to own years ago but with a bit more sparkle. its not really a bad machine for the money.
