I would like some suggestions for a low output mc cartridge that bring out the best mounted on an Alphason Xenon arm.

I will be using the same phono stage (Art Audio Vinyl One) that I use with my current DV low output MC cartridge which has a rated output of 0.26mV, resistance 100 ohms as I don't want to change or mess with the V1.

    I don't want to go more £700.

The AT33 PTG keeps comming up, but with a higher output of 0.5mV would this still work at its best with current Vinyl One settings?

    Any oher ideas please.

    Hi Flyfisher,

Nice cartriidge. That is a £2000 cartridge. Are you keeping it or is the new cartridge a replacement?

You could look at the cheaper XX2 cartridge which should have similairities with your current cartridge. Dynavector offer a trade in which you may be able to haggle down to £700. Not sure if it has to be like for like.

The Ortofon Rondo Bronze offers very good performance for around £650.

I have heard good thing about the AT33 PTG but have not heard one recently.

AT33 produces about 0.3mv so it should work fine.
100 ohms loading is also about right for most systems.

    Thanks for the info.

There seem to be a few variations on the AT33, any thoughts (PTG v EV varaitaions) besides the cost!

I'd go for the PTG. Good line contact tips are essential for accurate tracing IMO. The PTG has a superb MicroLine tip and remains 'CD clean' right to the end of side. Cheaper than some of the others too.

Is the AT 33EV such a bad tracker?

Ah, the Garrott Bros - good to hear that the company is still around.
Used a Decca London rebuilt by the Garrott Bros once. Quite a sonic ride :)

Their MM cartridges look identical to the old A&R (Arcam) P77/P78 models in all but stylus type. Wonder if I could fit a Garrott stylus assembly to my old P77 body.

Rob - if you ever find out would you let me know please? I have a Stilton P77 with a very worn tip which I quite fancy firing up again some time. :)

I have just looked up the spec on this cartridge and the output is 0.5mv, which is almost double the 0.26mv of the DV TK Rua.

As my phono stage is not adjustable, then how these two different cartridges work?
