In search of ever greater sonic bliss I've bought a new anorak. Some strange people are trying to persuade me that fuses are bad and destroy the music. Fair enough I say but what about safety?

So it occurred to me that if I replaced the case fuse with a Micro Circuit Breaker or MCB I might remove the blockage which a fuse causes and improve safety at the same time. What I need is an IEC plug with a 2.5 amp or 5 amp MCB built in and the ability to wire it up to some 6mm2 T&E.

Either that or I need to get out more.

    Anyone have any ideas?

i doubt you will find an IEC with it built in.

But maplin have the product you need
part # AK07H thats for the one amp version, they do others up to 10A

Same little unit that Audio Links sell, but somewhat cheaper.

Another option you might want to look into are Xindak silver fuses.

Tom, perhaps using equipment that doesn't require this unorthodox method, may be more appropriate ?
I ceratinly have no desire to replace the current (pun?) protection in my equipment.
Still good luck to you sir :)

If my theory is correct then this tweak will work for all brands not just our friends in Salisbury. I only want to go this route if both criterea are met, i.e. greater sonic gains and increased safety.

I'm sure it must be possible, after all these days we protect the cable at the Consumer Unit end with MCBs rather than fuses so why not further down the chain?
