My Meridian 500 has stopped playing, but still sounds like it's spinning.

Before I give it a funeral with full military honours, could it be (and would it be worth) repairing? Or is this a symptom of complete failure.

It doesn't owe me anything, and I don't use CD much but it's in nice condition so I'm reluctant to just chuck it.

    Any help appreciated.

Meridian themselves can probably still fix it. Any meridian dealer can send it to them or maybe you can send it to them direct, there will be an email address on their website.

My 206 spins up but then displays err.
Turn it off and then on using the switch at the rear and mine will play

I've had this before on a couple of players.
Both times it was down to a dirty laser lense.
    The solution was...
    Open the cd drawer
    Turn off at the mains
Remove the top cover and you will hopefully be able to see the laser lense.
Using a cotton bud and isoproply alchol (record cleaning fluid )
roll the cotton bud over the lense.
The bud should be just damp.
    Re-assemble and try.
Being a smoker I used to do this annualy and it always sounded better afterwards too.

    Good luck,

    Martin.

Your cd used to smoke? you've got bigger problems than just a dirty lens.

try a cheap cd cleaner with solution (you wont need to remove anything for this),,,,you can get them from HMV for a few quid....put a few drops of liquid (same as Obelix) on the cd brush and play - it may work / may not----I use one every 50-100 hours and it can make a difference, my car cd was not playing and it fixed that.....usually, you can hear something as opposed to nothing however, worth 4 or 5 quid though.
