I'll join you Chris. Big fan of MJ's earlier stuff upto about the "Bad" album at which point he started to go rapidly downhill (musicall aswell as mentally IMO).

"Beat It" and "Billy Jean" are two songs which I simply can't hear without getting up and boogeying :jig: . "Thriller" is one of my fave albums.

I even went to an MJ concert in 1990 (or 91) in Wembley Stadium. All I can say is, amazing show!

I'll also admit that I have been known to do the "moonwalk" on occasion :shame:

Thriller was a great album, aside from that, there's been a few singles that have been worthwhile, but not enough to make me go out and buy albums. I've still got the tape copy I made of Thriller from the library CD back in '94 and it still does for the rare occasions I want to hear the album.

    Hi,

I quite like Michael Jackson. I have a lot of his stuff. He is very popular on the retro scene. Michael Jackson & the Jackson 5 are, I would say, the most requested artists at my retro gigs.

I quite like the Jackson 5 stuff, where Michael sings lead vocals. Some of this stuff is very well put together, well sung very catchy & good to have a boogie to. ABC is a favourite album of mine. Billie Jean is a top song & is a winner on my dancefloors.

Indeed. It's always a shame when someone that has a talent as great as he undoubtedly had (haven't heard much lately to suggest he still has it... sadly) and ends up losing it for whatever reason. Can't help but think maybe his success, particularly in the early years with the Jackson 5, is partly to blame... can't have been much of a childhood for a start. You gained some insight into that from that documentary thing on TV a while back.

'Off The Wall' is a bone fide classic album.

It is a shame what he's become, although I actually thought his latest single was somewhat better than anything else he's done in the last 10 years.

Why all the "ok I admit it" as if it's something to be ashamed of? The guy's made some amazint tunes. I only own Thriller, and Off the Wall, and a copy of dangerous on tape somewhere too.

As mentioned by Dean, Billy Jean is a classic! I've heard some excellent tunes using samples of the bassline.

dum dum dum dum, dum dum dum dum, dum dum dum dum, dum dum dum dum, dooop dooop doop doooop dum dum dum dum, dum dum dum dum, ......

I used to love the older stuff off thriller and bad when i was a nipper, and this threads brought back those memories. The more recent stuff was cack though. People would have left him alone if he could have kept his trousers up.

I'm not ashamed to admit that Bad and Thriller are among 2 of my fave "pop" albums of all time. :)

Thriller is arguably the bigger classic out of the two, but I've found myself listening to Bad more times.

Don't really care much for most of Whacko's output post Bad, and certainly don't own any more recent complete albums apart from the History "best of" compilation.

Not ever heard Off The Wall, although IMO "One Day In Your Life" I've always found to be a stunningly heart moving track.

Billie Jean and Beat It, I agree with what others have said, it's difficult to keep your body still whenever one those two tracks is playing. One thing though, whenever I hear Beat It, I can't help but almost always think about that song which came out a few years after which was a parody on the original called "Eat It" - anybody else remember that track?

hiya henry, you really need to get 'off the wall' my friend! - check out the track listing on Amazon.com, its a classic album of all time.

Youre thinking of 'Weird Al Yankovitch' (I think thats how you spell it?)

    :)

    Hi,

Off the wall is a very good album. I prefer it to Thriller. You can pick it up cheaply on vinyl or there is a remastered cd that has extra tracks (Demo versions & interviews). You can pick this up for £5 or £6.

The weird Al Yankovic track 'Eat It' comes from this album.

I have a copy on vinyl knocking about.

I STILL need to get Off the wall:
"Don't stop 'til you get enough

    Shhhmmmmm'on!

    OW!!"

Pure class - and the way mateyboy in Rush Hour 2 murders it in the tryad karaoke bar is funny as.

I own Thriller and Bad on vinyl, and for some reason best known to me, I also got Dangerous - although patchy, there are some good tunes on there. I also got History for a fiver in Smach Generators - thought that was a good deal!

My copy of Thriller (on vinyl) can't be very far into the pressing run, as there's a sheet of paper listing the other Jacko releases, and it proclaims in huge letters that Thriller is available on CD :) I don't know how old specifically, 'cos I got both Thriller and Bad second hand.

I actually quite like Bad, but it's not a patch on Thriller. You have to love how between 1982's Thriller and 1987's Bad, he's already visibly changing from a black man to a white woman...

The videos for the title tracks to Thriller and Bad are both groundbreaking IMHO - love the use of "tough, bad kids" on the Subway - wicked! And of course the light up pavement in Billie Jean's video is pure 80s tacky cheese!

Shame he turned into a freak with a microphone in the last few years really...

I always liked Thriller although I don't own it. The only MJ I do own is Blood On The Dancefloor. I love Earth Song - especially Hannie's Manic Mix - something like that. It was on a 12inch. I'd love a copy of that if anyone's got it.

I hate to admit it - but that's pretty much the ONLY Jacko track post Give in to me (Slash's work on that is ace) I've actually liked.

Heal the world was OK for a while but now it makes me want to :chunder:

I really must get some Weird Al (especially Smells like Nirvana!), to go with my Rolf Harris/Kev Wilson. In fact, I also need some Flanders and Swann - comedy music is fantastic!

You guys should check out the SINGLES album, most of the tracks mentioned are in there. MJ had it going on bigtime during the THRILLER era, but lose the plot not long afterwards. OFF THE WALL was cool, but a bit too disco for me. Any more cheesy music confessions, what about GEORGE MICHAEL? Come on lets hear who's into CARELESS WHISPER of an evening. LISTEN WITHOUT PREJUDICE was pretty cool though.
