Any advice here? A friend is hoping I may buy his Nott analogue spacedeck with spacearm. I don't play vinyl much but have a lot of records. Any advice on cartridge - I would want moving magnet as have Gram Slee 2 phono amp and special power supply which worked rather well on my last vinyl venture.

The thing is I dont want to spend too much as this would be an experiment - so far I've not been bitten too much by the vinly bug. Also - any offers of MM cartridges gratefully considered but I haven't decided whether to get the deck or not. BTW I know it's a damn fine deck but there's all that fiddling about!

    Thanks folks.

Denon DL-110 - it's an MC, but a high output one that works into a MM input. Works a treat in the Spacearm.

DL110 is a bit of a no-brainer, at that price point.

I am about to buy a Denon 110 for my Interspace/RB300. I think Harrow Audio is quite competitive on price, around £65 plus postage. Worth checking for the up to date price on their website.

At risk of offering redundant advice: I currently have an Elys 2 (bit bright) but I'm about to swap it for a.... Denon DL-110

To be different (but not too different...) I used a Denon DL-160 for a while. Strictly speaking it is a high output MC but it works fine on an MM phonostage and it is not expensive (£80 new I think) so it probably fits your bill.

I love it, and if I had to downgrade from my koetsu I would probably seriously consider this one!

    Cheers,
    Jack

Again thanks for advice - however have found that I have a Goldring 1042 cartridge in a drawwer (loooong story) - damaged stylus - replacement about £90 - would this be better than a new denon?

No- different but not better, I have tried goldring and rega carts and much prefer the denon.
I am currently toying with an upgrade and the only carts I have so far found that are a real upgrade are the Sumiko Blackbird at around £500 and Dyn 20 X H at around £400

You might also consider the Benz Micro Gold HO MC.

Sounds as if the Denon has it if I decide to have another go at vinyl- many thanks for the advice - great board this, I asked my GP this morning and he didn't have a clue!

Yes, and also the Sumiko BPS Evo III. HO MC with good detail and dynamics, a step up imho from the Denons without spending lots of pounds. £220 new, I believe. Some people don't like it, some people love it I think for the money is hard to beat.

The Goldring imho is nowhere near the league of the denons, even the 110 and certainly not the 160 but you may like it nonetheless. The DL160 is not the brightest sounding, so it can sound a little dark and not being warm is on the warmer side, unlike the Goldring (ime). In comparison the GR will sound thin to my ears.

    My two cents,
    Jack

I was just going to ask why it's so rare that anyone recommends the clearaudio carts.
Using an Aurum classic wood here.

Yup, another vote for the DL110. I`m using one on a spacedeck/Mystic mat/rb300/heed and i`m really impressed with it.
Takes a min of 20 hours to burn in, after that congratulate yourself on the best £350 cart you ever bought :)

Stunning bargain, as is the DL160.
