Well, I like it. After 5 years with the Michell I fancied a change. The DP6 is an excellent arm, in just about every way. Haven't had to dust it yet. I'm lucky to be in a fairly dust-free area, something to do with the sea air I think. -- Ian
The At33 rose quite audibly in a region I can hear in! The Dorian doesn't sound thin through the midrange at least, it's actually quite warm lower down. The Argo is another thing altogether, it's true. Still, I much preferred my old 103R to the AT33PTG (which I still have boxed and v.low mileage if anyone is interested). The AT tracks superbly, though. Then again this tracks nearly as well and it sounds good, too. The SL-10 is great. You put a record in, press play and it plays. No fuss, no muss and it sounds very very good. It is also very well made. A very solid deck, even with its springy feet The SL-10 is a stopgap until the uber SP-10 / Morch project comes together, at least it's supposed to be a stopgap...
Clamps kill the groove, you know. Are they still serviceable? Looking forward to trying to break it -- Ian
Not high end, not expensive, but without doubt, in my mind one of the prettiest decks ever made and nicest to use:
You kept that quiet Jon. It is a handsome bit of kit though. Do you think it sound appreciably different to the old Xerxes?
Yes I suppose you could say I was a little 'coy'... I had been thinking long and hard about possible options for a tt upgrade, including the idea of abandoning Roksan altogether and looking elsewhere at other competing products, as there is a lot of interesting alternatives out there on the market at the moment. But in the end the '20 upgrade seemed the easiest and cheapest solution. It has to be said though that one pretty crucial motivator was Roksan's pretty drastic price increases which were due to come into force shortly after I booked my old deck in! Does it sound any better than before? Absolutely, much more weight and authority allied with superb timing - to me it just sounds so right. I should also add that I had the arm cable on the Artemiz upgraded plus I have now corrected the load settings on the phono stage to get the best out of the OC9! If you want to come round and hear it, Rob, then of course you'd be more than welcome
