    Hi,

Would be interesting to dj with those decks.
I do remember seeing a pair of big Denon turntables in a night club in Spain once.

Dean, those look a lot like Luxman PD300s.
I wonder if there was Lux/Micro link?

    Hi Rob,

They do look alike. Not sure if there was a link between the two companies. It looks like there may have been.

Ah DP-100's - held in awe still I see.

It is quite ironic that the Japanese were turning out these state of the art turntables at exactly the same time as Practical HiFi and HiFi Answers were telling us all to sell our grannies and buy an LP12. Damn the press of those days have a lot to answer for.

I saw one of those for sale in a shop in Holland about 15 years ago for about £250. Didn't at that time know what the big ugly fecker was! I wish I had.

I wonder if the platter lights up blue under low light? Murray you have no taste. Just because it doesn't look like a kitchen worksurface.

I've never been that taken with the look of their amps. Slapping a few bits from Clearaudio's skip on the lid doesn't change that view.

That's a lovely looking turntable there, Murray.

Just a small point... Are you still using the Technics rubber mat, or have you tried anything different?

I have just sold an SME 20/2a and bought an SP10 in a Slate Audio plinth. The difference is frankly phenomenal. I've found an Isoplatmat works a treat at damping some platter resonance, with obvious sonic gains as a result.

I quite like the look of their amps ... just not with a turntable welded crookedly to the lid.

That Mcintosh looks like some ghastly photoshop trickery.
I can't believe they'd produce something looking like that.

I do like the electronics though and would happily live with a huge mound of the stuff in my room. Probably live happily ever after in fact.

I've got to agree. Those illuminated meters are very cool. How's the P9 doing; have you trashed the Argo yet? :)

    Hi Paul,

No the Argo is alive and well but up for sale on the old Bay at the moment.
The P9 is great but quite different in character to to last two decks I've owned, the Orbe/SME4 and Micro DDX1000/SME4. The P9 has a lighter balance for sure but unfortunately so does the Argo. I could live with that until recently - just - but I've recently upgraded the Focal tweeters in my speakers from TD90s to TD120s which reveal the Argo's top end zip. The old tweeters were fine up to 16khz then die abruptly whereas the new ones go out to 30khz. Effectively, the rising top of the Lyra was balancing the top end drop in the speaker.

Here she is with her Funk dust cover.....

    Hi Paul,

ref the SME20 vs SP10 comparison, no comment!

I didn't like the supplied rubber mat at all. I felt it gave a very odd bass presentation. I use a 10mm piece of polycarbonate with a recess machined in it for the label. Polycarbonate gives a rather different result to perspex/acrylic. I do also have a carbon fibre 'mystic' mat machined down to fit which works quite well although I do still prefer the polycarbonate.

I didn't know Slate Audio did an SP10 plinth. It's not on their website although it is another obvious plinth for them to offer. Is it a dual layer thing? Do you have pictures?
