Nice dust cover, Rob! The Achromat works really well on Rega T/Ts, and your deck looks great.

I agree with you about the Lyra; I think it's indicative of their sonic signature. They do many things so well but they sound a bit thin overall.

Never mind I'm sure you'll sell it no problem on ebay, and you've got a very nice AT-33PTG now. It's a great cartridge. I ran one for a couple of years. For the performance on offer it's a total bargain, but then AT can do that kind of thing. I now use its big brother with the titanium body, the AT-33R, amongst other things. I'm somewhat of a 'cartridgeholic'!

P.S Murray and SCIDB, I'll get back to you later. I have to pop out right now.

People find an AT33PTG thin vs an Argo?!?!
My experience is the other way round. And I simply could not live with the 7K peak on the AT33PTG which ruins an otherwise excellent cartridge (to my ears).

Clue, it's not the 47 Labs record player.

It's a early 80s Technics linear tracker isn't it? Any good? What's happened to your NAS?

    Hi Joel,

It looks like a Technics SL 10. This is meant to be one of the better linear tracking decks.

    Give that man a prize.

It's a Technics SL10 and it is sounding remarkably good.
The NAS has been moved along.

    Hi Joel,

Does it have the Technics cartridge?

Some details about the deck are here.

    Dean,
It does indeed have the excellent Technics cart. I'm on the lookout for another cart to get re-tipped, although this one sounds mighty, mighty fine as is.
A powerful, clear and stable sound from such a small deck. Appearances can be very deceptive.
It's also a pleasure to use, and the red light has that whiskey glow to it...

    Hi Joel,

I remember seeing these decks in Laskys in the 80s. They were better built that most of the linear tracking deck at the time.

That Technics cartridge is meant to be top notch. I might have to hunt one of these deck down.

Nice Joel. Have you tried it vertically yet? It's begging to be hung on the wall.

Since we're showing off recent acquisitions, here's my Amazon Model 2/Morch DP6 combo.

I recall reading a review back in the day that really liked it other than claiming it got alarmingly hot inside – any truth to this? IIRC the reviewer feared for the flatness of his vinyl!

    Tony.

PS Ian that is a mighty cool looking deck.

Joel that deck has been the subject of some recent comments in Hi-Fi World. They really rate it. It certainly looks very cool indeed.

Ian that looks awesome. There's something about Morchs that just scream 'I mean business'

Well, it clamps the record in, and UK reviewers were somewhat allergic to that at the time IIRC. There's nothing outrageous going on that I can see though, and it tracks my terror Horace Silver BN "Finger Poppin' LP very well indeed.
As far as heat is concerned, no problems so far, although as it's above 25 Celsius and 80% humidity atm (midnight), I'd probably not notice anyway.

    Sounds good to me!

    Here’s a recent pic of my Spacedeck…

What a cute explosion at a paint factory piece of vinyl. I'm still waiting for your's to sprout another arm. I see the pods ready.....

The record is Electric Sound Of Summer by Fuxa, it’s excellent in a kind of bleepy trippy post rock kind of way.

I’ve no idea what if anything will occupy the armboard. To be honest I’m getting more than a slight itch to try a vintage idler drive deck. I suspect Garrards are out of my price range now but I fancy having a play with a vintage Lenco. My first proper deck was a L75 and I’m curious to see what one can do in a serious plinth with a decent arm. The first thing is to find a really tidy one to start experimenting with…

there are 401's going for less than you'd get for your NAS. There was one with either a 309 or a 3009 on your place for about £450 the other week. Surprised you didn't clock that one.

A quick look on Hififorsale, reveals there is nothing up at the moment, but plenty of 401's have been up in the last 12 months for about £400. There was even one for £175.

As we all know the 401 is better for stereo as it was designed for that ;)

Joel, I think you meant it the other way round :) ..... however...

The AT peak is tiny though - the calibration plot with mine shows it within +/- 1.5db limits from 20hz-20khz and it certainly sounds smoother and more relaxed than the Lyra. Misses out a tad on drive and punch but not much.
Both my Argo and a Dorian I've heard are bright - very bright if used in unsympathetic systems. HFW tested a Dorian last month and found it 8db up by 20khz!

Tony, do I spy a second arm mount on there?
    Got another arm/cart in mind?

    Who cares about graphs ;)

Anyway Joel that's an offensively cool looking deck - is it actually quite heavy?

I had the pleasure of hearing Ian's new Amazon and I have to say it sounded superb - the lovely midrange and lightness of touch to cymbals and the like was really impressive. Have you bought a decent duster yet Ian?
