Cheers for the heads up on that. Somehow seem to keep missing it when it's on Sky, so will have to suffer endless advert breaks instead. :(

As for favourite soundtrack album, that's a tough one. It's probably out of these:

    The Wonder Boys
    The Blues Brothers
    Pulp Fiction

and all the others that I can't think of right now.

Yup, O Brother's a fantastic flick with a soundtrack to match. Great stuff.

The Gladiator soundtrack is actually rather good. I mean, it's nothing particularly original or profound, but in terms of entertainment, it's good enough fun. The best thing is to play it on a high quality hifi that knows how to go loud (and deep - the bass is quite impressive). On the right system, with the volume cranked, it is extremely intense.

    Other favourite soundtracks of mine:

    (musical scores)
    • Donnie Darko
    • Blade Runner, by Vangelis
    • Braveheart, by James Horner (the battle music is really impressive on a good, loud system, 'a la Gladiator)
    • Fargo/Barton Fink, by Carter Burwell (both scores come on one CD)
    • Requiem for a Dream, by Clint Mansell (& the Kronos Quartet)
    • Pi, by Clint Mansell
    • Lord of the Rings, by Howard Shore (not heard ROTK score yet, but the first two are great)
    • Fight Club, by the Dust Brothers
    • Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon, by Tan Dun (and Yo-Yo Ma)
    • Amélie, by Yann Tiersen
    • Edward Scissorhands, by Danny Elfman
    • American Beauty, by Thomas Newman
    • anything by John Williams (e.g. Jaws, Star Wars/Empire/Jedi, Indiana Jones, Schindler's List, etc, etc)
    • anything by Ennio Morricone (e.g. The Mission, The Good The Bad And The Ugly, Once Upon A Time In The West)
    • anything by Joe Hisaishi (scores most of Miyazaki's animated films, e.g. Princess Mononoke, Spirited Away, Kiki's Delivery Service, My Neighbour Totoro)

(soundtracks with songs featured in the movie)
    • Pulp Fiction
    • Kill Bill
    • Romeo + Juliet
    • O Brother Where Art Thou?
    • Batman Forever
    • The Million Dollar Hotel
    • 8 Mile
    • Ghost Dog
    • Good Morning, Vietnam
    • The Jackal
    • The Matrix
    • Trainspotting
    • Top Gun

Notice that a movie doesn't have to be particularly great to have a great soundtrack. ;)

The Eraserhead soundtrack is a classic. Not sure if it's still available.

Yes, I like that one too, and I often play it for itself rather than because it reminds me of the film, which I think is the hallmark of a good score album. He also wrote the score for Solaris, which initially I didn't like, but now after a couple of playings I like even better. The sound quality is better too (there's quite a lot of hiss in the AB soundtrack).
