A friend of mine is opening a club, but she has no idea what music system to buy, so I have been nominated.

I thought Richer Siunds did DJ gear, but they do not appear to now.

Does anyone know where I might be able to go ? without being ripped off.

All we need to start with, is a dual CD player, amp and a pair of speakers, I think SH is ok, just as it is cheap and cheerful to start with.

    Thanks

Sorry this is not directly Hi Fi, but not sure where else to go.

Quite a few London bars and clubs use ATC 100 speakers. China Whites is one.

for amps, I'd suggest rackmountable amplification, and lots of watts.

for speakers, I'd go with high power handling and high SPLs.
Size depending on the size of the club.

    some bass bins

    typical horn 2 way

In all cases quality will depend on budget!

the best club speakers i've EVER heard were dance stacks by funktion one - they were playing incredibly loud hardstyle dance music but were amazingly clear, zero distortion and no ringing in the ears the next day. if i had the money they're probably the only things i'd bin my ipl's for. not cheap though.
i'd also second crown amps but they aren;t really budget either.
if you need stuff which is good value, robust and sounds good try cerwin vega. amps are going to be more about power handling and cooling ability so somethign like a bheringer digital jobbie would be good. most of equipment problems in clubs i've been to have either been down to dodgy connections or overheating amps.
    cheers

i'll also add that the worst 'club' system i've ever heard was by bose. and the most bassy was something that they were running at se:eek:ne last year - blurry vision and difficulty breathing there.... no idea what it was though.
    cheers

I have actually been pretty impressed using the Mackie active stuff.

Try a pair of SRM450 2 ways on poles mounted to a pair of SWA1501 subs below.

If you can find that second hand you will have a very nice sounding system that can fill a room holding 200 people easily enough.

I blew up one of those subs, it was rather fun!

One thing to consider with a club in particular is your electricity bill. If your running constant high spl you may want to look into high efficiency speakers to half the annual running costs. Cerwin-Vega! specialise in this area.

P.S worth getting the kit designed for your space if you have the budget, as there is a danger it may sound less than ideal without proper setup & design!

    Hi,

Long before anything else you need to define what you want from the system, how large the club is and so on. It needs to be decided if it is a "Disco only" system or if live bands will need to use this too. And you need to know the budget. Sometimes for a club starting up going for a medium term rental might be better then to buy outright. Many variables.

In larger spaces using build in brick/concrete bass horns can be an excellent option and one that reduces costs very much.

On the other hand I have a "on the drawing board" system derived from our earlier installs which used large clusters of very inexpensive JBL Control One flown directly above the dancefloor (4pcs Control One per squaremeter) and some trick "woofage" that might be applicable. Also, the sound and light design should really go hand in hand. There is a lot of stuff that can be done cleverly.

PM me if interrested and we can talk on the phone....

BTW I used to do such stuff (Sound, Light, Clubs) for a living a good while back....

    Ciao T

well funktion one is really state of the art as far as club PA goes
but realistically the best he can do is either to go ATC or Martin Audio (the new line array system rocks biiiig time). both really have an amazing ability to sound extremely clean at high volumes that actually doesn't sound loud at all - you are still being able to talk to a person next to you.... a basic test to make a difference between a good and a bad PA system.
