My older brother and girlie are due to have their first child in November. They're considering a home birth and when speaking earlier, we were talking about possible music.

    Any suggestions?

Suffer Little Children by the Smiths?

It would be a great way of giving a child a dark sense of humour.

Of the three people I know (through an NCT group) who were planning home births of their first child in the last couple of months all of them delivered in hospital after getting through most of labour at home. Partly depends how far from the hospital you (in this case your brother) are, but these things don't always go to plan.

So true... we had a 'normal' hospital birth planned, using only a TENS machine and massage for pain relief to be supplemented if necessary. My wife had chosen Sibelius 6 and some Haydn quartets as the music she wanted....

Ho Ho Ho.... after Gas, Diamorphine, Epidural, finally an emergency C-section after 24 hours of unproductive labour.... we couldn't take our own CDs into the Operating theatre as they had not been sterilised, so our daughter was born to the surgeon's Robbie Williams CD!

Let me just say that this is very possibly the most inspired thread subject in the history of this forum.

I presume you have taken the appropriate legal advice regarding this medical malpractice?

Thanks for the suggestions! Keep them coming :D

They've got a sort of book in which they've been keeping newspaper clipping of things which have happened during the pregnancy, and has spaces to list who was number 1 in the charts, weather reports, sporting events, and all that stuff.

So the plan is to have a compilation CD with songs chose by all the imediate family and close friends. Details get entered into the book about who chose what (and possibly why).

What started as a light hearted conversation has now got quite serious!

Do I go for huMOur? If not, then what and why? Something I feel is appropriate for the occasion? Something for the parents? Something for the baby? Something I feel is a great song that the baby needs to hear?

    Too much pressure!!!

    I'd thought about that too.

And as they don't know the sex, how about Aphex's Girl/Boy song?

So far, on the list from the MOthers side, is Simply the best (not happy about this! sung far too much by Rangers supporters for my liking!), and something about Baby Face, which I'm not sure I've heard.

And my brothers best mate's picked a Bootsy Collins tune.

I quite like the idea of sitting her in a paddling pool in the middle of the room and sitting around her holding hands singing campfire songs.

So far there's been a Nick Drake tune added, not sure which. What a wonderful world, and Sweet Child of Mine

I seem to be the only one who hasn't picked something!

    Help!!!!!!!!

I think the due date is November 21st(ish)

    Keep them coming!
