Thanks for the offer Nando, but I am on a somewhat different path these days. I've found the sound i've been looking for finally. Wouldn't waste your time.

Its not in this country and as you can imagine they are not keen on shipping it. Checked with MF and found they are all 240V tapped for different voltages. I understand only 50 were made?

    Hi Rob,

There have been 4 A370s on ebay over the last few weeks.

    Hi Dean,

I used to hear the old MF regularly as a friend was steadily woking his way up from the A1, through the P140, P180 then 2 x 270s and finally bi-amping Apogees with a 270 & 370.
I enjoyed it all, though could never admit to that in the 80s of course ;)

A few years ago I tried a little The Pre (in waffle case) with a pair of P140s on my then H2s and they sounded great.

Some of this period MF stuff has a reputation for less than wonderful reliability but good examples sound good, and the looks are classic IMO.

    Hi Rob,

The good old flat earth days of the 80s.

I have been aware of a lot of MF stuff over the years, some good others not so.

I was tempted with either the A370 recently just to have a play around with. I have seen a few recently. I wouldn't mind getting my hands on a Musical Fidelity Synthesis to play around with.

    Hi Dean,

Is the Synthesis an integrated version of the original Pre and Dr T?

    Hi Rob,

I'm not fully sure. I'm not sure which came out first, the Synthesis or the Dr Thomas power amp.

    Hi Nando,

I have read the review by Noel Keywood. He does rave about it and said it was the best solid state amp he had heard. But he didn't say it was all together better than the other amp he compared it with.

This was a Icon amp that uses 845 valve that was less than a third of the price.

hi, i did not or would ignore that there are other amps out there cheaper or using other devices of output designs that are really worth their sound for pound, i agree with you on that basis, however n.k. is right and i agree it is the best S.S. power amp that i heard too, it reminds me when amcrom were using bi-polars only i always loved class A in s.s. power amps,
    regards,
    nando.

Doesn't the "best" mean that it is better than the other...

P.S. Not that I believe that there is a "best" amp.

    Hi Dev,

The other amp was a valve amp. Noel Keywood thinks it is the best solid state amp.
