    Hi

    Re my Mesh.....

The drivers have dissappeared from "my computer" to the peripheral drives.....also my polish course on a chip/usb.

I did this before...the last time it did this system restore got them back.

I ve gone back two weeks now(system restore) nothing doing....just shows the torch searching around.

A note from yahoo messenger says "Plug ins safety mode. Yahoo Messenger quite unexpectedly so yoiur plug ins have not been reopned. Double click each plug in on the tool bar to reopen"

There IS no plug in on the tool bar!!!

Can someone put me right here, please?

    tia

It sounds like your registery is currupt, I would check your hard drive as it may be failing but it could also have been caused by viruses, faulty RAM or even in extreme cases in proper shut down. I need to know what has caused it before I can tell you how to fix it. I could just say reinstall all the drivers etc but without knowing the cause it is like repairing a head gasket without repairing the cause of it.

Yes, thanks AT, I think probably whats done is tripping the house electrics with the driver yesterday.

    I've now done defrag....big changes/ scan disc/aniti virus scan.

Its now working great except it still won't get into the peripherals.

Improper shut down I think is probably whats done it.

    I can't understand a word of what you're saying...!

Do you understand the difference between drivers and drives?

Are you saying your portable memory drive(s) have disappeared from the list of drives in "My Computer"?

    ok lets start again.....

drives are fairly easy but how Do you define drivers?

    Yes.....

Under "my computer" there use to be a list of stuff (or more properly a collection of icons) representing the equipment I'd got attached to the computer such as my Polish course (using a chip/usb port), card reader and and external hard drive.

This list, shall we call it, has now dissappeared......leaviiing a torch waving arouind in the their space....I presume Microsofts symbol for the computer trying to find the icons.

Interestingly the symbols some times ARE found, after 1/2 hour!

Needless to say, before this corruption (whatever) happened....the icons wouild have appeared instantly.

Sorry I'm not good with computer terminology....does that make more sense?

Incidently it froze ina "works" window (think i was assaving some thing) so somethings defo not right,

If I avoid the above.....the computer works great!

    Any clues on this?

This is really annoying as the machine has up until now been really good!
