Home made ones usually. Many active pre's have too much gain to be user friendly particularly with CD and low feedback amplifiers. If the gain is slugged with feedback or attenuation by certain other means the performance often suffers imo.

    Line stages are tricky.

I like the M77 but could never afford one! It does have alot of gain but I'd work around it.

it shouldn't be difficult for a $39.000 preamp to be better than a silver TVC.

seriously, speaking of active preamps, i've recently heard a modified version of "euridice" DIY with output transformers, a serious killer. the only problem is size and weight, nearly 30kg. i have no idea how the guy managed to make it soooo big.

I don't know. You'd need to check with DA. Too much for me regardless. On a list of many things (cars, fishing rods, holidays etc) I'd like but can't afford either!

I imagine you getting some good quality split cane, and whipping your own! My wife has a list, I tell her that materialthings do not matter! Tribute transformers?

You're right, I can get as much pleasure (almost) from a cheapo 2 pc fibreglass 10ft carp rod as I can get from a fancier Shimano one I have, never mind the hand made variety. Not to say I wouldn't consider one if I won the lottery but I don't lose sleep over it!

I've still got a Match & a 410, both lovely reels. The baitrunner feature on the reel above is very handy though for Carp legering.
