It is with a sad heart that today I have to announce the demise of my old Exposure X. It's been in the family for over 12 years (bought it when it was 4 years old) and has never sounded anything less than great. Ok, it's no fancy hi-powered, esoteric piece of kit but nonetheless it will be greatly missed as I'd got very attached to it.

Turned it on this morning - loud 'tap tap tap tap' through one channel, which got worse, and louder, the longer the amp was left on.

Rang the factory - they don't repair X's any more and I don't really want to fart around with it myself. They reckon the power section of the amp is on the way out. Exposure have, however, given me a pretty amazing deal on trade-in against a new 2010. I really like the Exposure sound - slightly hard but very punchy and rhythmic. Does anyone have any experience of the 2010?

    Thanks for any help :)

Did your Exposure die of exposure then?

I'm surprised and dismayed to hear that. How hard can it be? Probably only needs a resistor or a capacitor
Is that the one that was playing at Bristol? Sounded very good. Just avoid metal tweeters :duck:

One of the main issues with the old Exposure kit was sadly reliability.

The Malasians are promising a swap out warranty with the new kit, and I agree, it sounds great for the money and beyond - the setup with the Vandersteens was a favourite of mine at Bristol

    LOL @ Alex :D

Chris - I too was somewhat surprised at their no-repair comment. I was at the Brizzle show - must be back in '02 I reckon and they had a very early 2010 playing. Was one of the most musical dems going on all day - nowt fancy just good, solid music-making. :)

I'm sorely tempted to bite the bullet and go for the new one - the deal Exposure offered me is almost too good. :)

Aren't you using your A21 yet?
That'll outlast and out-perform the Exposure for years to come!

Urm, maybe they'd all lapsed into comas from musical boredom?? BIG :duck: :)

Sorry to hear of the Exposure's demise... Is Hixy around any more? He had Exposure 2010 gear at one point...

I reckon what happened was that your Exposure heard your Sugden A21 and just decided to give up.;)

    LOL :D

Don't get me wrong - the Sugden sounds absolutely lush, very very sweet. On classical music - I've some Byrd Motets and Viol music and the sound is just wonderful. However, it doesn't make me reach for the air guitar like the Exposure did on rock music. It doesn't lift me in the same way.

Strange thing though, is I've got the Tablette 50 Sig's back out of the box, plugged the rear ports with foam, and they're sounding fantastic. I don't know if this is the 'done thing' but it seems to work - not being able, in our room, to get the speakers more than 3-4' out of the room's corners meant that with the ports open the sound was as muddy as hell - dreadful in fact. Now? It's a transformation - midrange clarity restored, bass fast and articulate and all in all a really seamless sound. :)

That should be framed on the wall - one of the simplest and most accurate observations of the music/hifi hobby!!!!

    Aye..
A friend of mine who used to build lovely valve amps, and now is into mains conditioning in a big way has what I would term absolutely no musical taste whatsoever by any stretch of the imagination...
All he would listen to on his fantastically expensive system was the most ethereal and hifi recordings it was possible to find - i.e. the really crap end of the ECM/Linn etc back catalogue.
I spose if folks want to listen to equipment rather than music, then back to the mantra of "each to their own"...
