Colour aside, i think this will be a truly awsome hatch.

Prices start at £17,500. I have got my heart set on one of these in a few years down the line. Should be practical everyday car, swift with good handling, and great value. Most of all I love 5 cylinder engines.

Golf GTI eat your heart out! :D

    What do you think guys?

My only problem with them is they won't hold their value like a GTI so they may cost more in the long run. The image might not be as strong either, but them modern GTi;s don't have a great image anyway.

I reckon the Focus is a lot meaner than a GTi (or great twat inside).

It's a Ford, you could pick up a bloody e-type for 20k, how could a Focus be your ideal car?

Could you use the E type everyday for work, rely on it every morning, and cart people about. I think not. The focus would actually be quicker too.

And who in their right mind would buy an e-type for £20k. You would only get one of those crap series three v12 coupe's. They look terrible, just look at the roof. The american market regulations spoiled it.

I would need one car for work and pleasure. If I can afford it later on I would love a classic/trackday weapon.

Oh and by the way, this was "Just a Ford".

It won Le mans four times. It is in my opinion one of the best looking cars ever made, along with others such as the lamborghini Muira.

Ford have a tremendous pedigree in go faster saloons on the road, track and rally stage. They also make some of the best handling/well balanced cars on the market today, and the quality is up there too. So please refrain from your sobbery.

When will some company be brave enough to make a rear wheel drive hot hatch? Or are they scared that the boy racers that buy them would end up backwards through a hedge?

One has just been launched :) The BMW 130I hatch. RWD with 258bhp and a lovely bmw straight six. Expensive though!

Talbot sunbeams are pretty cool too. Snorting carbs and Rwd in an ugly hatch. :D

Whats the advantage of RWD besides being easier to make?

Ha ha, well yes it was a reactionary post after a couple of beers and I agree that an e-type might not be the most practical car in the world but.....

A Ford is a Ford is a Ford.

And the one you want is named after a DIY store.

I just feel that if 'someone' had 17.5k to spend then buying a Ford Focus shows a disturbing lack of imagination, regardless of how quickly it will get you between Halfords and Wilko's in town on a Saturday morning.

    It's a Ford - that say's it all.

Could have been worse tho :( , it could have been a Vauxhall.

RWD just drive better coz theyre pushing the car as opposed to pulling and the front wheels are only there to steer the thing. The 1 series is RWD. You loose alot of space which makes a hatch pretty pointless. Another hot hatch to watch for is the new Skoda Octavia vRS, just got the info through and its a dam fine car.

    Fix Or Repair Daily...

Why not get a bike, and stop ruining the environment? <ducks!>

PS - I like the idea of 5 cylinders though - that's pretty cool...

I don't believe rwd is easier to make. The natural thing to do for the inexpereinced driver when they lose control is to do nothing,or to turn the wheel too much,so dialed in understeer will save lives.

That Focus looks a beast, but willl it have some sort of Haldex system like the Golf?

No, it didn't. The car pictured is the famous 5L GT40 (chassis 1075) that won two Le Mans (1968 and 1969), one of only two cars ever to have done so. The '69 was one of the greatest races ever, with the Ford and a Porsche 908 prototype slugging it out wheel to wheel for the last 4 hours of the race, the Ford (Jacky Ickyx at the wheel) winning by less than 100 metres.

The 1966 winner was a Ford GT Mk.II (looking very like this car but 7L)
(This is a model of the winner, driven by Bruce McLaren and Chris Amon).

And the 1967 winner was a Ford Mk.IV (rather different bodywork)

(This is the appropriately-numbered winning car (Gurney/Foyt), with the bump in the roof to accommodate the tall Dan Gurney's helmet).

I believe that 1075 is owned by someone in Switzerland and is driven on the road, still in its Gulf battle colours and bearing that number 6 – I've seen it in Lugano.

My Idea car, Sci-Fictional (if it where actually possible to build it) would be "KITT" from knight Rider, I know its a Pontiac Trans Am t-top, but the actual ability for the car to drive itself which would make it my ideal car, so I wouldn't need a driving licence!

Thankyou for correcting me. I just chose the 5l Gulf Gt40 as it is perhaps the most iconic and the purest in form.

Speaking of which, for not much more than the focus I could make a replica with a 5ltr ford V8 :D

Sorry guys, i just got a bit excited, i like fast fords (i'm from Essex) and we used to sell them, so my dad/grandad have had most of the fast fords between them. There hasnt been anything exciting in the past few years, so they have moved on.

Im thinking of this from a fleet perspective anyway, i will be going into a family business in a few years time, and we get fleet deals on fords. It would have to clock up a lot of miles too.

What really appeals to me though is a warbely five cylinder turbo (220 odd bhp) in the front of one of the best handling hatches. Apparantly they have tuned it to sound like the original audi quattro :) Look at the torque curve too, its got bucket fulls of low down shove.

Apparantly it is 7 seconds quicker than the old RS (which i never really liked much) around the ring, and yet not so compromised on rough roads. Still a lot of power through the front wheels though!

PS. I HATE BLOODY VAUXHALLS! Even elises with the griffen stuck on.
