I bought a shed nearly a month ago and one month later I have had mixed feeling swith it so here goes:-

I love the way it drives, the engine is very torquy and it is more than fast enough to get out of trouble in towns, I don't do motorway driving so higher speed is not an issue. Gearbox is very slick, clutch seems ok.

It has burnt no oil, lost no brake fluid and lost no water, there is no no smoke at all from the back even when cold you just see a little condensation puff.

There is a little buzz coming from the fuel intake area, it is an electrical sound, but when it makes this noise there is no difference in the way the car drivers, I am guessing it could be an iffy injector but either way this will be a cheap fix.

The drivers door does not work and the door card is off atm ready for taking into the garage to get this fixed.

I am also going to put new brake pads put on and the new arch brake pipes as these are rusting I want to change it to be on the safe side.

I am going to get the brake pipes done ASAP as I don't want to be told at MOT time car wasn't safe to drive. It seems this car is in a lot better mechanical condition than my last one, but it does need some TLC. The way I look at it any sub £1k car this size will need work it is worth spending £200 to fix it.

Yep this is what I have been fulling over, spend £100 on brake pipes, fuel pump could go a week later, however don't spend £100 on brake pipes the consequences could be dire. They still have a long way to go before they get dangerious but sooner or later it will become more than surface rust.

Other dilima is the plugs are rusted into the head, its not too bad, and I read even in this case 9/10 times cylinder head does not need to removed, WD40, vinigar usually sorted it. The car is not mis firing at all atm so I do leave the plugs alone and hope than in my low millleage I would never need to change them? Or do I risk changing them now with the risk of snapping one?

The engine seems very good, no rattles or unusual noises, just the usual tappet noises, my mechanic has advised me against having these adjusted as it will put more preasure on the camshaft and he reckons mine are quiet anyway for this type of engine.

I should go with your mechanics advise on what needs replacing.

He will advise you in pretty strong terms if the break pipes need doing.

If the fuel pump is working now....it,ll probably be ok.

Don't forget to fcator in you own time with this car.

ie time spent on it is cost penalty towards the next ( better ) one.

In what way? It goes, it stops, it stears and it has the added bonus of heating which eventualy works.

I could leave it for another 7 months till the MOT expires, but I am not taking risks when it comes to those things called brakes.

Indeed bob :). Well actually atm it is a distraction I could do without as I need to concentrate on the road rather than changing CD tracks.

My car does have a CD player but I have only used it once when I was early for a job.

    Just so.

I (pretty much) haven't used the radio/cd player at all since doing the advanced motorist stuff.

When I had a mate in the car he wanted the radio....thatwas another matter.

The exception to this was a week or so ago when I used my Polish tutor cd. Basically , inherintally a very bad idea but I didn't want to wate the time (3/4 hour) traveling to my parents'place. I left a LOT of space between myself and the car in front.

I suppose on the motorway cruising at 60mph in the left lane then its not too bad.

I have a friend who has not touched the radio since accidently missing a light and writing two cars of in the process.

I never used to use in-car systems much, but the Accord which I got in July has the "Premium Sound System". This amounts to a 7 speaker setup (tweeters on the dash, 4 door speakers, sub in the boot), In-dash 6 CD changer and some separate amplifiers somewhere.

I have to admit to being rather surprised at how good it is. The lower noise floor in the accord helps as well, although it's not perfect (too much road noise because it has the 17"s, doors and underbody aren't damped enough). At some point I'm going to get the underside coated in underseal and treat the doors and possibly roof with spectrum sludge, which should help some (and with general road noise levels when not using the system).

Like DavidF though, I used mine much less after doing IAM. It's fine when you're motorway cruising, but if you're doing some serious driving then there's too much info in the sounds of the car. That, and I do rather enjoy the noise when the engine switches over to the short inlet manifold runners.
