    FS - Naim CD5i - Now sold

    For sale, Naim CD5i.
Bought new Jan 2004, serial number 200221. As new condition, no marks, scratches etc. Boxed, with manual, puck, remote control.

This particular unit was used during a Zerogain bakeoff last year against a CD5/hicap and Quad 99, as kindly hosted by Julian.

WMs description of this CDP was "grooves like a b*****d", which is a great way to sum it up. Has more life, energy and toe tapping ability that any competing CD player I've heard, including the more expensive CD5.

I'm happy to dem to anyone who collects. I'm located in Docklands area of London, can deliver within the M25 if necessary.

    Price: £550.
    For more details, PM me.

The N O S DAC that arrived today.
Don't get me wrong, the CD5i actually grooves better than the DAC, however the DAC has the edge on how natural things sound. Mix that in with my 82/hicap/200/kaber combo, and the DAC is a better match.
With a Nait or 112, I think the CD5i might be a better match.

When I heard the 5i, the 5 walked all over it (in a dem); how messy does a properly-run-in 5i sound? IE, is everything lumped between the speakers, or does it have some semblence of a stereo spread, as the 5i I head sounded awful?

    I've got a 5/Flatcap btw...

its generally established by a lot of naimies that the 5i is nowhere near as good as the 5... but then retail it does cost considerably less... and if i rememebr correctly doesnt offer upgrades in the form of power supplies etc.

its very much a budget stripped down naim for the masses.

    We dem'd a my CD5i against Julian's CD5/hicap last year.
The CD5/hicap was clearly better. However, the CD5i does have more life, energy and "groove", so the CD5 is not better in every way.

Having had a good deal more experience with the CD5i, I'd like to suggest that with a high resolution amp/speaker combo, it's not a great choice as it clearly manipulates the sound, making things a little synthetic in places. However, with a lower resolution system that needs some spark adding, it would probably work wonders.
