Need help to understand about dbs

    Hi I'm new to the fourm my question is I have a cyrus i9-xr amp and when I turn my amps volume up it counts in -db's, when the volume gets louder it's counts down in -dbs can someone explain to me thanks .

    Full volume is 0dB. As a volume control is an attenuator, the degree of attenuation is shown as minus so many dBs. -3dB is half power, -6dB is 1/4 power, or in voltage terms, -3dB is 0.707x, -6dB is 0.5x

    -10dB is approximately 1/3 voltage or 1/10th the power
    -20dB is 1/10th the voltage or 1/100th the power

    And so on.
