I'm so ancient that my immediate thoughts were of Mandy Millar's 1950's original on "Children's Favourites" with Uncle Mac on Saturday morning radio!

This was helped by the fact that I'd never even heard of the Toy Dolls.

They were a beat combo in the 1980s who never troubled the charts, well after your time Tony :)

Excuse me Ian - but the Dolls version of Nellie got to number 4 in the UK singles chart in December 1984. They appeared on the same edition of TOTP as Band Aid. Sold over 600,000 copies worldwide....can you tell I've read the book?

    Cheers

Indeed very popular. I remember buying the Dig That Groove Baby album at the time which had Nelly on it mainly because some Journo in NME had lauded their Chuck Berry riffage ... it was just about the only album I ever bought that I considered so bad I had to take it back. Thinking back it probably wasn't all that bad and I probably swapped it for something terribly dull (I was a very conservative record buyer in my youth).

Tones you definitely wouldn't like it :)
