Has anyone tried out the new DAC from MF? The X-DACV3 Digital-to-Analog Convertor?
At £400 the price is in the right area.

Wish it had more inputs and an input selector for use with digital sources other than CDP.

Actually I think I have had an about turn on MF, I now am of the opinion that although being prolific, the stuff is of excellent design, and nice looking, too.

My local dealer hope to take first delivery in a couple of weeks. Offered to lend me one for a week-end. :)

MF say, "From a technical standpoint the X-DACV3 is just about the best DAC available in the world at any price."
A very bold claim to make in the DAC world of four figure prices!

Booked the dac and the matching power supply for a demo.
Dealer hopes to have them in by next weekend.

I think the price is actually £500 - the £400 figure quoted in the review is wrong, and the power supply is £50 cheaper than that stated.

I followed WM's advice and had been looking on Audiogon to purchase an MSB Link 111 dac but have been messed about both by retailers and MSB direct themselves.

If the MF sounds there or thereabouts in my system I'll spring for it and sod those Yanks.

I was in New Orleans a couple of years ago and generally speaking the service in a lot of places was crap - don't believe the hype that their customer focus is great.

    Will,

I've never had any probs at all with the Yanks regards purchasing or shipping, and a lot of guys on here are the same I feel. Shame you could have got a cracking piece of kit instead of the yawn F, however you may like it, but you'll never know what your missing now, still I suppose it can't work for every one, and at least you tried.

Any Audiogon dealers in the UK or do you have to import it?

hmm are MF going the what hifi route, saying every new thing is by far the best ever?, (better than the x-dac, the x-24k, the x-act, the a3-24 thingy dac, the tri vista dac?) looking that way.

actually come to think of it there was no 'x version 2' so why the sudden v3?

    Sorry about that wee rant.

    Tony
Spent the best part of a week sending emails, sending reminders, even a phone call and none have replied back to me.

I had money burning a hole, up for buying,.........

I'm still waiting on a Nad 218 which I had spotted with a dealer, $600/£300 - a steal. Shipping would have been a whopping £180 (it's 30 kgs) except my darling is over to the States in Nov and would be bringing it back.

I had it set up she would be bringing back the MSB Link and Power Supply and since MSB havn't replied I hope to substitute the Nad - if I ever hear from the dealer. So bloody frustrating........

And, before you ask, no, she doesn't know it's 30 kgs............yet. I'll leave it nearer the time, and of course it may never happen.

    Try

    http://www.audiogon.com/

Yeah - you would have to import and pay the taxes. 22% should cover it and then your postage/shipping.

Even at that, some of the gear they have is really really great value.

The Nad I hope to bag is 110v but conversion to 240V real money is apparantly straight forward.

IIRC there was a Nad 218 on ebay for about £300 a while back,as an alternative you could consider a 2700 THX (two nice little pots on the front panel - no Bal. Control) and about 150/160 Watts RMS/channel or go for the ultimate NAD power amp. "The 208".

I already have a 218 driving the Dyns - for some insane reason I've always lusted after a second one to bridge to mono.

    600w per channel, party time..........

Latest news from the dealer today was that units are being shipped out towards the end of the week.

Have MF stopped selling their Tri-Vista 21 DAC? That sold for considerably more than this new X-DAC V3 didn't it? And got pretty good reviews at it's price point.

After my rant about our American cousins (God bless 'em) I now find them wonderful wonderful people. Where would the world be without them, I often wonder.

Have come up trumps with the big Nad 218 at long last (WM was right about about he who waits) - just have to confirm with a local engineer that the 240V conversion is do-able but the seller is holding it over for me.

Oh, still have to tell SWMBO that my new baby is 30kgs, and she's, erm, bringing it over.

Still, what a wonderful world we live in..........

These Chinese are consuming more oil and its workers are starting to demand more wages. I hope our Americans cousins will do something about it. China is a nuclear power. Probable got WMDs also. A prime candidate to qualify as one of the axis of evil.
