New Flaming Lips - War of the Mystics - Views?

    Quite underwhelming & disappointing. Simply not as many catchy or bombastic tunes as Yoshimi.

    There are a couple of worthwile tunes - nothing you'll be humming to work though. Some tracks do have some pretty nasty distortion to - almost certainly intentional, but unwelcome nonetheless :(

    Anyone else got any views on this?

    Pop Dork said similar things, except they managed to spin it out to 3 pages of pretentious drivel. Either way I gave it a miss this time.

    I've yet to hear a positive review from a source that I trust. This is the first Lips album in years that I haven't rushed straight out and bought, but after Yoshimi, I wasn't prepared to risk it. I feel a bit sad about it TBH. I've got the house to myself today, so I might have to have a compensatory Zaireeka session.

    Have any of you bought the vinyl reissues of their first four albums. They're absolutely stunning. I've had 1 and 2 for a while, but I got 3 and 4 yesterday and am looking forward to listening to them later. They're beautifully packaged, and the sound quality is very good.

    re-issues? I have yoshimi on funky orange vinyl - 120g stuff I think, but I don't think its a reissue.

    Can you post a link please?

    Not yet. I will be getting "In a Priest Driven Ambulance" though becuase the 'Jesus Egg" comp CD was the one thing that got broken when I moved house...landed on its edge and cracked right through. I love that album.
