Oh sorry Lee I didn't read your post correctly, long day! For some reason I thought you said to simply remove the fan on the Ti200... :rds2:

That big one you have a picture off there is the same one I put on the NVidia in a clients PC and it did a lovely job.

i think bearing in mind the improvement i can get with a £30-40 card I'd rather go this way and give the Ti200 to my folks- they're still stuck with a TNt2 Ultra!

edit- i haven't got anywhere near enough room for those huge heatsinks strapped to the graphics card anyway! i've got 2 soundcards , tv tuner, usb card all in there and the pci bits are a bit tight for space!

well I have just upgraded mine from ebuyer, to a radeon 9200 with I think its 128 from a 64 gforce mx440

I think on some games its still struggles, jeez how powerful do these things need to be?

I have 770 Mb ram, too!!

The amount of memory the graphics card has really isn't a sign of how good it is. It seems to translate to being able to run higher resolutions than the same model card with less memory, but a higher model, even with the same amount of memory, will crush it for performance.

You may think this is obvious but I know a lot of people who are still living in the days where the amount of memory was the main factor of video card performance!

With respect though, a 9200 is still very much a bog standard card, just as the MX440 was when it was brought out. I'm not surprised some games struggle.

For me, the minimum card that will run (modern) games any good is something like a 9800 Radeon class card or 6600 Geforce class card.

Phew :) roll on my imminent delivery of a 256 meg dual DVI XFX 6800GT today then - hope the chip fan on THAT one's not too noisy! It'll be far superior to the POS 64 meg 3d "card" that's in there at the mo ;)

Mmm - methinks San Andreas and hot coffee later assuming it arrives and works - nicely!

San Andreas runs fine on my ti200 actually Dom. Having said that, i managed to score a Radeon 9600 ProAtlantis 256MB, with Zalman heatsinks for £25 delivered

oh, and i bought a Antec Phantom 500W Fanless PSu from overclockers today as it was on special. This hopefully is going to be one quiet pc from now on :)

thats the price of fanless PSUs and I regard sound quality (through having the PC not interfere with my hifi) as a whole much more important than gaming

My PC is in my bedroom - I want a fairly quiet machine, but it doesn't have to be silent. Good thing too since that XFX fan is flippin' noisy (it's higher pitch than the main Nexus Breeze case/HDD noise, but no higher in amplitude, so not that bad).

Only one problem - when I turn the frame rate limiter off in Vice City - the sound starts crapping out almost immediately (though the graphics look ACE). The radio stations sound fine, but car sirens and chopper noises either go phasey or buzzy, and when you pan around you get a horrible "stripping" noise - is this RF breakthrough into the soundcard, overheating, or software - any ideas? (main case temp=40C, CPU=44C, GPU = 58C after a good long burn).

I've posted in another thread too (it's really doing my head in!).
