The stuff from the past is quite old. The new stuff is a bit too new though.

I agree. The newer stuff is definitely not as old as the older stuff and it's British too (the British bits at least). All IMHO of course.

that's a bit simplistic!! - the past is always with us, as evidenced from the stuff lusted (sic) in 'My Kit'

I agree about the new stuff though - I couldn't have put it BETTER.

So the old stuff is old and the new stuff needs burning in. All of it is British. Unless it is very new 'cos then it is Chinese. But not as Chinese as the Chinese stuff. Which is probably copied from the non-British British stuff.

German Hi-Fi neatly bypasses all these problems giving far better sound.

Some of the British stuff is not British. And even the most British stuff is not British inside. And still it sounds British. Which, as British say, means it does not sound at all. And there is also NOS - new old stuff. But it's a bit too complicated, so all in good time.

Sorry to highjack it, but recently some German shop put a German power amp AARON 3 Millenium on British ebay. It looked quite high-endish and attracted ZERO interest, I even thought of buying it for some £35 as it stood, but then of course a perfect shield bidding followed (from exclusively private bidders all with hidden nicks) and I lost my interest. Does anyone know this model?

    here it is

this concept British - defined in the 18th and 19th centuries as 'not French and not Catholic' - is a bit slippery. It is what's inside, who sells it, where it's sold, how its made, which brings us back to the question - why ask?

All my HIFI stuff is Japeneese, Danish and Czechyish.

It is not hard to guess what brands come from Denmark and which come the Czech :D

    I can't afford British gear.

I tend to find newer stuff is more expensive than an old equivalent.
