"Wall e" out this summer. Click on the video trailers. Apparently it features a robot and and cockroach called "hal", has a much darker tone than earlier Pixar movies - I like the sound of it.

Opens soon, been checking out the reviews etc. and this one looks like something special.

My 3.5yo can't get enough of the trailers on the web. The sound design has been done by "Ben Burt" who did star wars. :D

Anyone seen it yet? The reviews are making it out to be one of the greatest films ever!

    Hi Guys

I have liked almost all of the pixar films and this new one looks like great fun. But i think Silent Running and Short Circuit may be an influence ,at least in design of Wall-e.
Out this week end so my wife and i will go and see.

    Regards D Louth

Is it my imagination, or is Wall.e getting virtually zero hype/marketing in the UK. I haven't seen a single advert for it on terrestial TV.

Considering the marketing budget that is normally thrown at the usual shit Hollywood releases, I find this a bit strange

I'm taking the young lad to see it tomorrow :)

Yay, out tomorrow? Will probably go and watch it then. :)

As a kid, I LOVED Short Circuit. I built a similar robot... kinda... from the bottom half of a toy hoover for the legs, plastic box for the body and soap box for the head. I hooked in a windscreen wiper motor to make it move, added a radio and speaker to the body, as well as a pop out umbrella thing and had lights for the eyes. I ever got as far as making it remote controlled (didn't have a clue how), it had to be driven from a switch on the back!

I don't watch that much TV, but I can't seem to turn the damn thing on without seeing an advert for it or one of the spin off games!

    Saw it this afternoon.

The first half is seriously good. You really have to keep reminding yourself that it's computer animation - some of atmosphere's they create are up there with the best sci-fi...Alien, 2001, etc. I wish that I hadn't watched all the trailers on the website as I knew what was coming next alot of the time.

Second half is more for the kiddies. My 3.5 year old was transfixed thru most of it.

I really want to watch that first half again as there is so much detail there that you can't take it all in on first viewing.

I watched it yesterday. IT was really good, and I think the whole thing was entertaining, not just the beginning. There were a few slow bits, but just as you started to think 'hmm its a bit slow' the pace would pick up again.

    Best Pixar so far.

I read that the guys at Pixar thought up the basic concept for Wall.e in 1994. Very ahead of it's time although the 70's movie "Silent Running" had some similar concepts (a classic!).

Saw it tonight myself. Thought it was superb, far darker and more focused than previous pixar movies, and with quite a serious edge for it. However these are presented in a fairly transparent manner so the kids will be able to see past this, and just enjoy the fundamentals.

A cleverly layered film IMHO. Visuals are as you would expect, class leading, and looking back to toy story, or even monsters inc, you see just how much texture and palpability they are able to put into it these days.

I agree that it's the best pixar movie yet, even if its really completely different from anything they have done before, so perhaps shouldn't be compared to the others.

Definitely one to see, even if you wouldnt typically go to see an animated feature. In this case just think of animation as a means to tell a story, and in this case, a story worth telling, and definitely one worth seeing.

When you think about it, its pretty much a silent movie. Very little dialog.

Saw it on the weekend with my 8 year old too.

Sorry to go against the crowd - but it's a cartoon. A CARTOON!!

It's a very pretty cartoon. Disney-esque simple themes of stars and romance. The future-story is so simple and uncomplicated and totally UN-deep Isamov would have written it in a cartoon supplement in a weekend paper and called it a bit of fun.

Having said all the above, I did quite enjoy it as some harmless fun, and I'd reccomend it to childrens-cartoon-loving adults.

I just wanted to get-off the ship which is somehow sailing in the ''all time greats'' direction. It's not Doctor Zhivago, The Great Escape or a Buster Keaton classic silent movie, it's a cartoon film for " the whole family to enjoy".

My two-year old enjoyed it, but not as much as he liked "Cars". My six year-old liked it but found "Space Chimps" to be a lot more amusing. I can't wait to show her "Lawrence of Arabia" or "The Best Years of Our Lives". She'll be totally messed up.

The lines here for "Dark Knight" are really long.

We did the silly thing and went to a midnight showing (thanks Grandma for sleeping over) last week.

If you enjoy Batman, you'll love this film. There is no question that most of the hype revolves around Heath's death, but it really did surpass my expectations. The cast (minus Aaron Eckhardt who annoys the crap out of me) is very solid and it is certainly not appropriate for children. No way. It is very dark subject matter best left for adults.

I told my kids they could watch "Rashomon" instead.

    ;_)
