Actually I think the statue in the garden was stolen from Easter Island!

Whats the box on the bottom shelf, some kinda mains filtration? also is that the remote next to the Pre, looks huge!

The box on the bottom shelf is a Dezorel G2 mains filter, and yes its a remote next to the pre its one of those all-for-1 learning remotes that controls everything although the QC pre is not remote controlable :( but at least I might start losing weight now?
Oh yes and the statue is made from audiphile standard concrete and helps keep RFI from entering the house :D

Nice. Are you planning to keep them on the rack though, not put them right up next to the speakers? Or am I jumping the gun a bit?

I didn't dem the dezorel but was talked into it by the importers Ecosse, I have bought quite a bit from them in the past and their advice has been spot on. He tried to get me to buy the Audiopax monoblocks, but at £8k no chance not to mention the pre is ££££'s. Suprising how much it lowers the noise floor though and I dont have bad mains.

Anex, I have the speakers either side as in this photo is this no good? I am struggling to put it anywhere else. I was going to put it all in a cupboard but read that the II40's need nothing above them for about 1m. I had to throw the stepped top shelf together just so I could wire them up, because all the cables come out the back. But Christ they sound good, i am as happy as a dog with two dikcs.

Do you have Quad speakers? If not, the McIntosh MC275 craps on those amps for the same money I'm afraid. You really should get a demo before parting with your hard earned.

Just saw the picture - so 988's! Still try the McIntosh - it's a steal at the money.

No theres nothing wrong with it, but monoblocks generally work best if you put them right by the speaker, i.e. use a long interconnect and very short speaker cable. I think its to do with picking up more interference through the speaker cables than you do through i/cs. You'd have to be careful of the rear wave from the 'stats though, don't want to pick it up through the tubes.

The brochure says max I/c length is 3m I would need 4-5m ones to put them by the speakers and the hifi where I want it :( what about screened speaker cables or screening the ones I have?
I thought of wrapping aluminium foil round the cable then covering that with black woven braid and connecting it to earth probably at the pre amp end.

No the problem isn't any worse with mono blocks than with any other power amp, its just you can potentially improve things by having two seperate boxes. I'd try it anyway, get some shark wire from maplin and make up a couple of ics, should be fine.

thats the traditional logic, but it depends if you are a cable 'believer' ! - personally looking at how close the speakers are to the mono's I wouldnt bother. It cant be more than 3m of cable anyway.

If you get no noticeable humming, whistling, or other annoying valvey-habbits I'd leave well alone IMO.

You should be able to do it, from the pics . A decent long Ic and short speaker cable is always better. To get the best from the Quad Electrostatics you may need a bit more space behind them. If they are toed in less that too might help. The Quads are the only speaker that I have ever been able to walk through the stereo image and it still maintain its position. They are very good, the amps also...so forget what Merlin said ! What does he know anyway. If like me you a Quadrophile you probaley don't care anyway !!

Make certain you use decent IC and speaker cables as they do make a difference.

    Happy listening !
